What to do about McCain?
January 31, 2008 | me

Posted on 01/31/2008 6:51:39 AM PST by reaganaut1

Many Freepers, including me, are disappointed that McCain will likely be the nominee. I'll vote for Romney on Super Tuesday.

If McCain wins the nomination, I will vote for him on the *hope* he will be less bad than Clinton or Obama would be. I see no reason to actively support him by contributing to or volunteering for his campaign. I think we should focus on congressional and gubernatorial campaigns, trying to hold the seats of real conservatives and maybe pick off a few vulnerable Democrats in what will likely be a Democratic year. Any suggestions?

I think McCain is leading because even most Republicans, not to mention the country, are not very conservative. We need to change the overall political climate before we can elect a true conservative. People are conservative for various reasons. To me, contributing the the Club for Growth (focusing on free-market policies) makes more sense than contributing to the national Republican party or especially the McCain campaign. Social conservatives have groups like Concerned Women for America. We also need to fight liberal bias in the schools and the media. There are lots of ways to promote conservatism other than participating in the presidential campaign, with the understanding that the payoff will not come in the near term.

You go on ahead and vote for him. I will refrain from voting on the President unless there is a 3rd party choice.

I will vote in my state and local election.

After fighting the CIR bill and hearing McCain say what a wonderful president Hillary would be, I just won’t hold my nose for this gasbag old fart.

Wouldn’t it be nice if McCain was as mean, vindictive, unyielding and uncompromising to Democrats as he is to members of his own party?

That has to be the most profound statement of the day.

McAmnesty is one temper tantrum short of a mental breakdown and the liberal biased media know it!

“I think McCain is leading because even most Republicans, not to mention the country, are not very conservative”

You’re giving them too much credit. If they’re voting for McCain, it’s not because they’re not conservative, it’s because they’re dumb as rocks, and follow whatever candidate the mainstream media tells them is the “front runner” and “best bet to beat the Democrats!” ad nauseum.

If McAmnesty gets the nomination, you can bet the love affair with the press will be over. The media will start pushing all his buttons and he will rage like a lunatic and lose in the general election by design.....

I hope McCain isn’t the Republican nominee, but if he is I will vote for him in a heartbeat over Hillary (or Obama).

He is far from what I would like, but he is pro-life, pro-2nd Amendment, and carries an 82% conservative rating.

No, this time the Conservative Base will stay home rather than vote for McCain. As a Reagan Conservative, I have had it with voting for RINOs. I will let the GOP go down in defeat this time.

The way I see it, the GOP doesn’t have a chance of winning in 2008. After 8 years of Jorge Bush and the Iraq war, the county wants to put a Dem in office. McCain is the establishment GOP candidate (like Ford, Dole) because it is his turn. He will go down in defeat. The GOP, like Moses, will have to wander in the wasteland for the next two years. Hillary will take the country in the wrong direction, destroy the military, kill the economy. By 2010 the country will be ready to listen to the Conservatives again.

If Nancy Reagan is endorsing McPain, she must have caught Alzheimer’s from Ronnie.

That’s what I think. I just worry Hillary has learned her lesson and will be more careful this time;.

"I cannot believe you would make such a messsed up statement. Why not keep crap like that to yourself? There are Mormon Freepers I’m sure. If you are Christian you should be ashamed."

I would never be ashamed to stand up and say Christianity is the true religion and all others are false. You have the right to believe anything you want. And I support your right to do that. But I'm not going to vote for you as the top role model in the land if you choose to believe a false religion.

I suppose you've considered joining your fellow travellers at this event?

The bigotry dripping from your post is repugnant. It's on a par with those that believed JFK was told what to do by the Pope.
