Huckabee says his GOP presidential bid isn't on the ropes

Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said Wednesday he has no intention of following Rudy Giuliani's planned exit from the GOP race and he dismissed suggestions that his candidacy could split the conservative vote and help rival Sen. John McCain.

With a narrowing Republican field, Huckabee could draw votes from Mitt Romney because of his strong support among the religious right - a possible boost for McCain.

"If the true conservatives are looking for a true conservative, they'll pick me. Romney's record is not a conservative record, his rhetoric is not conservative, even with what he's said and done," Huckabee said.

Huckabee surprised by winning the Iowa caucus, but has little money and finished a distant fourth in Florida.

The former Arkansas governor and Baptist preacher was in Newport Beach for a fundraiser at a supporter's home before traveling to Los Angeles for an Americans of Faith event and to Simi Valley for the GOP presidential debate.

Huckabee also pledged not to drop out of the race, despite his poor showing in recent primaries. He said he would focus his campaign on Southern states that are slated for the Tuesday round of primaries.

"Those are all states where we believe we are not only in play, but we are poised to win," he said.

"This boy isn't on the ropes. There's a saying in the South: 'It ain't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog,'" Huckabee said.

His morning fundraiser in Newport Beach netted more than $100,000, according to organizers.

"Our campaign is so frugal we could go a month on that," Huckabee quipped to about 200 boisterous supporters and volunteers.

Huckabee also was schedule to attend a dinner fundraiser in Thousand Oaks.

And we have a saying in the North: Fuhgeddaboudit!

Given that Huckabee is ahead or tied in more Super Tuesday states than Romney, he probably has as better chance than Willard does.

Why isn't the question being asked if Romney is still viable? Willard has no or little chance in any of big liberal states. He seemingly has less of a chance of winning southern states than Huckabee or McCain.

Other than Massachusetts, Utah and Colorado, is there really a state Flip can win in?

I can't believe the conservative vote would go for a liberal mormon like Romney in the first place, so I think Huckabee is right. He's not hurting Romney, he's probably hurting McCain, if anybody.

He is uninformed and/or stupid. His statement about WMD and Jordan, if uttered by a conservative, would have driven MSM ballistic
______________

Yah. And McCain thinks Putin is the President of Germany and Romney thinks Barack Obama is Osama bin Ladin. Cut us a break with the gotcha journalism nonsense.

Where were all the Freepers when Thompson was helping McCain clean up in South Carolina?

Huckabee is the only conservative left. I’ll stand with him over flip-flop and Captain Queeg.

He’s just trying to figure out where his fawning media went after Fred got out of the race.

“They love me; they really love me.”

He also said the WMDs went to *Jordan*.

But here’s the thing, the front-runner is McCain and yet he says ...

“If the true conservatives are looking for a true conservative, they’ll pick me. Romney’s record is not a conservative record, his rhetoric is not conservative, even with what he’s said and done,” Huckabee said.

THE GUY IS RUNNING AGAINST ROMNEY! Usually, when you are serious about going after the nomination you go after the frontrunner - not Huckster. No sirree. Cant do that. Folks, HE’S A RINGER FOR MCCAIN. A stalking horse.

He took out Thompson (in Iowa, we just didnt notice until SC), and now wants to take out Romney on Feb 5.

Even the media is open about it .... “Huckabee could draw votes from Mitt Romney because of his strong support among the religious right - a possible boost for McCain.” ...

Hand the nomination to McCain. The conservatives have been had!

Yah, he was only one of 4 Republicans to win statewide office in 130 years in Arkansas. And won 4 elections in a row.
