Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee said Wednesday he has no intention of following Rudy Giuliani's planned exit from the GOP race and he dismissed suggestions that his candidacy could split the conservative vote and help rival Sen. John McCain.
With a narrowing Republican field, Huckabee could draw votes from Mitt Romney because of his strong support among the religious right - a possible boost for McCain.
"If the true conservatives are looking for a true conservative, they'll pick me. Romney's record is not a conservative record, his rhetoric is not conservative, even with what he's said and done," Huckabee said.
Huckabee surprised by winning the Iowa caucus, but has little money and finished a distant fourth in Florida.
The former Arkansas governor and Baptist preacher was in Newport Beach for a fundraiser at a supporter's home before traveling to Los Angeles for an Americans of Faith event and to Simi Valley for the GOP presidential debate.
Huckabee also pledged not to drop out of the race, despite his poor showing in recent primaries. He said he would focus his campaign on Southern states that are slated for the Tuesday round of primaries.
"Those are all states where we believe we are not only in play, but we are poised to win," he said.
"This boy isn't on the ropes. There's a saying in the South: 'It ain't the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog,'" Huckabee said.
His morning fundraiser in Newport Beach netted more than $100,000, according to organizers.
"Our campaign is so frugal we could go a month on that," Huckabee quipped to about 200 boisterous supporters and volunteers.
Huckabee also was schedule to attend a dinner fundraiser in Thousand Oaks.
ROFL/LMAO ‘08
Damn, that was funny.
Huck lives in denial and hopes to be Juan’s VP
I'll end the suspense. The Huckster never had any regard for conservatism. He's been Juan McQueeg's stalking horse from the jump. He's just selling some folksy snake-oil to naive bumpkins with no political sense whatsoever.
You've got to be kidding me? He said that? With a straight face? And people are voting for this schmuck?
Wow.
I take that to mean you support the Huckster. :-))
“Compared to Romney who is now tagged as a Loser...
HuckaBEE has got the HuckaBUZZ! (Bzzz-Bzzz!)”
Huckabee is expected to win OK, AR, MO, GA and several other states. The states where MorRom was hoping to pick up votes on Super Tuesday will now go to McCain since he won in Florida - momentum really does count. I suspect that by the end of Super Tuesday that Huck will have more votes than MorRom will, but McCain will by far lead and may have enough to cinch the nomination.
Whatever, I think you will find MorRom is pretty much spent whereas Huck will continue to do fair because the social/conservative/religious base of the GOP will go with him. Some of those that liked Mike but were inclined to vote for MorRom because of his perceived “electibility” will now vote for Huck in following elections, because he BEST represents that group and ensures that social conservatives aren’t ignored.
The end result is that McCain will be the GOP nominee and may (likely) pick Huckabee as his VP because Mike will shore up the GOP religious base better than MorRom ever could. If it isn’t Huck, it will be some other social conservative without any shaky place actions on abortion, homosexuality, or 2nd Ammendment rights.
So, if it makes you feel better to be silly and go bzzz bzzz...well all the more fool you are.
I was saying Huckabee is beating Romney in a lot of national polls — so the idea that he should drop out is silly at this point or that he is only helping McCain. Same can be said of Romney in Huckabee’s favor and it’s just as silly to say.
I actually said exactly what I meant: Huck is ahead of Romney in a lot of the national polls.
Read more carefully!
LOL . . . I posted back to you before I read that. No problem.
There are always two Sith you know.
Maybe you could get the mods to put a “huckster truthfile” at the top in place of the Rooody one?
Whole bunch of huckster rumpswabs on the threads lately.
So I’m too strong in my opinions and you think Huckabee supporters are stupid. Is that a log in your eye?
I did not have sex with that woman!
Reality is that Huck doesn’t have a chance for two reasons: (i) he only won Iowa so almost no delegates, (ii) he has no cash, and (iii) he finished poorly in Florida.
Romney can ONLY continue because he still has cash. So to topple McCain, the only realistic alternative IS Romney at this point.
He’s just selling some folksy snake-oil to naive bumpkins with no political sense whatsoever.

Problem is that Romney spends a fortune and doesn’t win. People don’t like him.
Totally uncalled for.
>Correction: Everyone... in Arkansas is an idiot.
>Totally uncalled for.
True that. But all have the same family tree...
