In my river bank fishing days in the south it was used for snakes.....
Darn, while I appreciate his ability and bravery, the "fishing gun" was somewhat disappointing....for us, herpetologist.

the perp had soiled his pants as he crawled out the door. I would have had an even worse mess to clean up if it had gone through his forehead, Probably he could have just hosed down his porch, cause with a .45 the perp probably would have toppled over backwards. But then again, he might just have fallen like pole axed cow, fountaining blood all over the place. Sort of like that VC shot by the Saigon police chief with the .38.
Dont go messing with Smokey Taylor. He just bought a whole bunch of fresh ammo.
Hopefully of both larger and .22 caliber. :)

But, seriously, kudos to the old guy for a well placed and accurate shot. Most of us couldn't do that well under stress. I suspect if you've had North Koreans, ChiComs, VC and NVA, plus maybe Kyhmer Rouge, Pathent Lao or who knows what (The odd Jihadi perhaps?) shooting at you or worse, (Special Forces, and their predecessor organizations, weren't just sitting on their a$$es between Korea and Vietnam) a single thug at your door would barely raise your heart rate. :)

But a head shot with a .22?
I was an Army PILOT, and I know better than that. Yeh, but the gun in your hand is a better choice, usually, than the one in the gun cabinet or even the next room.

Fresh, long rifle hollow points I hope. For head shots, perhaps copper plated solid rounds, or even solid copper, might be better. Hollow point would just "splash" against the skull. Sort of like shooting at steel plate with basically lead, jacketed or not, pistol rounds. You get a nice slivery dent (at best) but no hole. Shoot it with a .223 and you get a jacket metal coated hole in the steel.

If the caliber don’t start with a 4 keep pulling the trigger, you might get lucky.

I think whenever I go to GA, I should go into that guy’s store and buy beer or something.

Head shot with an 8 gauge. You could sell the results to a modern art gallery.

scrappleface? has to be... but then again we live in strange times. the good get punished, and the bad get exalted to unseen heights.
Did you even read that article or are you one that just reads the title and immediately feels it is negative. It is a funny story and is a shame you did not read it.

***After the trial Taylor said the ammunition was indeed old and added the new information that the perp had soiled his pants as he crawled out the door. I would have had an even worse mess to clean up if it had gone through his forehead,***
BWAAAHHAAAAA! Great Stuff!
I’m laughing to hard to think if there is an appropriate Seinfeld tie in. < snort>
