With his second victory in a row, Mr. McCain is now clearly the favorite for the nomination that eluded him in 2000 and that again seemed out of reach only three months ago. He turned back Mr. Romney thanks to the votes of seniors, veterans and self-described moderates and independents. He also did well in the Miami-Dade and Tampa strongholds of the state's popular Republicans who endorsed him, Senator Mel Martinez and Governor Charlie Crist. In Florida, the Republican establishment coalesced around the Senator like it never has before.
Mr. Romney nonetheless won narrowly among Republicans, and more broadly among conservatives, which at least gives him hope that he can be competitive next week. But it's notable that Mr. McCain won narrowly even among voters who said the most important issue was the economy, which Mr. Romney, the former businessman, had made his major focus.
The Florida result also showed once again that running against immigration, even illegal immigration, is the fool's gold of American politics. Mr. Romney won decisively among voters who considered it the most important issue, but that was too few voters to matter. Mr. McCain did well among Cuban-Americans and other Hispanics.
As for Mr. Giuliani, his distant third marks an amazing fall from what only weeks ago was a lead in the national polls. The former New York City mayor has been widely roasted for the strategic blunder of not fighting harder in earlier states. But in fact he did compete for a time in New Hampshire, only to see his fortunes fall amid negative reporting about his New York record and the revival of Mr. McCain.
... It is also no small irony that the mayor deemed too liberal by many social conservatives was the Republican candidate most reviled by the liberal press.

That leaves us with McCain. Months ago the hope was that Duncan Hunter or Fred Thompson would benefit from the personal attacks on Giuliani and Romney; I guess that didn't happen.
Every successful organization requires cooperation and expanding the group with a tolerance for differences but with the understanding of the similarities. This has not happened and the consequence is predictable--unanticipated rise to power of someone who steps into the void created by the confusion and emotionalism personal attacks.
Hispanics want wide open borders and amnesty, they will propel McLame to the presidency in California and beyond.
Besides, it will provide very chep labor for employers and the American taxpayer will again pick up the tab for all the expenses associated with open borders.
This msm that we keep claiming is dying seems to still have a lot of power. They define the narrative that most people who don’t pay a lot of attention see every day and don’t question.
Exactly, we have ignored the MSM to our peril, the few media outlets that do seem to lean conservative are choc a bloc full of Moderates and Social liberals.
Sad but true. I find myself in MSM de-programming mode among friends and family all too often.

Great post Shrinkermd, the question then becomes “What can we do about it”?
The divisions that have been created are enough for McCain to drive a truck through perhaps all the way to Minneapolis.
“McCain is now clearly the favorite for the nomination”
FAT CHANCE! Absolutely NOTHING has been settled.
A lot of DemoRats crossed over in Florida because the Democrat primary had no delegates.
This election cycle has been SO MANIPULATED by the DemoRats. Early primary and Caucus votes allowed independents (including DemoRats) to vote Republican.
The beneficiaries??? Juan McCain and Ron Paul.
Never in my life have I felt a national election cycle has been fixed after ONE MONTH of actual state voting then now.
We are going to have to get REAL UGLY TO STOP MCCAIN.

I wonder if those voting for McCain realize they are voting for amnesty? Also McCain turned back Romney because of his slime ball tactics, proving he was lying SOB.

__________
Um, what’s going on with the “Republican” primaries?
Why are we allowing the MSM, the Democrats and Independents to choose our nominee?
I keep asking: who is voting for McCain?
If he wins that nomination I’m staying home election night. :( Well who wants to try to choose the different side of the same coin?
What an idiot.
However, the totals below suggest Mitt will harvest WAY more of the dropouts' votes than McLettuce. It ain't over.

The mainstream media only has power because of the apathy and ignorance of the unthinking citizens. They will eventually ( in a century or so ) get the government they so richly deserve. The founding fathers knew that democracies have a very short lifetime and the political class is doing it’s best to turn America into a democracy. Soon, ( sooner if Hillary is elected ) we will all be faced with an ever increasing tax burden as politicians try to buy even more votes with an ever increasing list of entitlement programs and our list of freedoms will shrink as we are forbidden from speaking out against the “common good” GOD BLESS JOSEPH STALIN ! ! !
Answer: forbearance and learning from past errors.
The election was rigged way back last year.
The MSM held a Presidential Draft. They prodded the candidates to start TWO YEARS or more early campaigning.
The MSM has put hundreds of millions of dollars in THEIR ADVERTISING bottom line already in this cycle and the BIG money hasn’t even been collected by the National committees yet.
The MSM manipulated the primary and caucus schedule, changing long standing tradition. In the frenzy, we have been had. The field is full of liberals and progressives. The true conservatives have been eliminated because the MSM has once again changed the definition of what a conservative is.
Once again, uninformed voters are being misled.
The Wall Street Journal consistently favors open borders and cheap labor for employers.
Also, the rise of an unstable man with an uncontrollable temper with no loyalty to any other than himself and the democrats to be in control of the country for four years.
What a scary scenario. I will not sleep easy for at least 4 years if not longer.
Hope you are right - but I have been amazed at the “momentum” ploy.
As if Americans only look to see who wins in one state to determine their vote.
Time for Americans to make a stand unless they want an unstable man to be in control of our wars, our nuclear options, our future safety.
They think they had it bad with Bush - just wait to see how many times our goals are trampled under a McCain - a man that actually hates us for electing Bush over him.
“Sunshine for McCain (Conservatives And Their Discontents)”
Allow me to paraphrase a song from “The Producers”
Spring-time for Mc-Cain and Hellary...
Jeez I’m sooo depressed.
“I wonder if those voting for McCain realize they are voting for amnesty? “
No, they do not, they believe the sound bites when he says, “I’ve heard you, we must secure the border’.
Many seniors without the information we know are voting McCain. Please contact some of them, AARP, etc.
I’m surrounded by idiots down here in S. FL.
What incentive to achieve is there if a rat is POTUS?
