McCain Triumphant! (Because Character Counts)
Fredericksburg (Va.) Free-Lance Star ^ | 1.30.08

Posted on 01/30/2008 5:47:25 AM PST by meandog

HARACTER COUNTS; some- times it counts in the count. In Florida, Arizona Sen. John McCain yesterday won the Republican primary, overcoming big disadvantages favoring former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney. What disadvantages? Let us, well, count.

Mr. Romney built a huge campaign apparatus in Florida over the last year, while Mr. McCain, since his campaign nearly expired last summer, was able to do very little organizationally in the Sunshine State.

Many Floridians voted early--before Mr. McCain picked up the endorsements of Florida U.S. Sen. Mel Marinez and the state's governor, John Crist (to say nothing of Sly Stallone).

The number of voters self-identifying as conservatives rose from 50 percent four years ago to 60 percent this year, and a solid majority preferred Mr. Romney. Independents--a group that has been kind to Mr. McCain--could not vote in the GOP primary.

Yet Mr. McCain pulled out a victory, in no small part, surely, because he seems simply more genuine than his chief GOP opponent, whose stances on key issues such as abortion and immigration have changed with the office he's pursuing. By contrast, Mr. McCain backed a "surge" in Iraq three years before it was ordered, and later when that position badly hurt him in the polls. His "heterodoxies" (ask any of the talk-radio gasbags) on immigration and the environment, whether one agrees with him or not, show him to be a man, not an ambition-twisted taffy stick.

Mr. McCain, now the bona fide Republican front runner, may have saved the angry right from itself. Among Republicans nationally, Mr. McCain has a 71 percent favorable rating, and Independents like him. He could win--and not just the GOP nomination. Never count character out.

What we have is a vindictive idiot and certainly not a conservative.

How anyone can use the word “character” to describe this unstable, petty, corrupt, back-stabbing, First Amendment shredding, left-wing, no-borders rat defies all logic and reason. He’s the death of the Republican Party. And quite frankly, the party deserves its fate for even thinking about nominating this awful, wretched man.

You can add all the heterodoxies that you want to an ambition-twisted taffy stick but in the end it's still an ambition-twisted taffy stick.......

Will vote for Romney on Feb 5.

If McCain is nominee will abstain in Nov. and change registration to Independent. Bye-Bye RINO party.

Yet another reason I am not voting for him. The same Juan Hernandez who thinks Mexico and America should be one country.

Was Mitt lying when he said he was a conservative in New Hampshire, or lying when he told the unions/Michigan that he would spend 20 billion and save the upper mid west auto industry( at the expense of the rest of us) Ditto saving Carolina Mills and expanded Federal drug money to retired Floridians?

I suppose it because like his Presidential running dad and his Senator running mom and his Senator run and his abandonment after two years of his Governorship he’s a Washington ‘outsider’. Although he practically lived there when he got 350 to a billion dollars plus in Federal bailout money for Utah Special Olympics.

The one thing you can say about Mitt is that he'll tell anyone he is almost anything they want him to be.

Why? Honest. Mitt is a very attractive RINO. The best in my life time. Tall, handsome, good family man, successful financialist, solidly moderate to liberal, double Harvard. They don’t come anymore consistently RINO than that.

Don’t know anything about those things, but are you denying his involvement in the Keating debacle?

No, but I would ask you to read the Senate investigation findings on Keating (BTW it occurred almost 20 years ago when he was a freshman Senator and pretty much ignorant in the ways of Washington)

Have you drunk so much of his koolaid that you can’t admit he called for amnesty for illegals and now lies about it?

I didn't like some of the aspects of Kennedy-McCain, but it was a compromise piece of legislation pushed by President Bush. I'm all in favor of securing the border, building a part-virtual and part-physical fence, rounding up criminals and prosecuting them and sending recent illegals to the back of the line. However, some of these people have been here more than 20 years, are tax-payers and law-abiding--"round 'em up drive 'em back" such talk (Romney) sounds more like "ethnic cleansing" than anti-immigration (and besides, I imagine that many original Americans living on Indian Reservations would consider you or I "illegal immigrants" too!)

You can live in a fantasy world if you want to. I prefer the truth. The truth is McCain was a crook and is still a liar.

Then, you're welcomed to write-in another candidate come November and help Hillary to victory.

What we have is a man who lost the only thing he had left, his honor, by bold-faced lying about his opponenet 3 days before the primary.

.....and we the People, thanks to the honor-free man, cannot get our money together and tell the truth about his lie in a broadcast ad because the honor-free man established free speech blackout periods to protect his lie.

President Hillary it is.....

So bringing Nanny State socialism through feel good environmental legislation proves he is a man, or that he is pandering, or he buys the BIG LIE of Global Warming being stopped because some Mom in Kansas installs a florescent light bulb?

Dude, enjoy your Charge of the Lite Brigade campaign...

1. Amnesty alone is enough for me to dread him as CIC
2. Civil Rights for Terrorists - including no torture even if it would mean saving American lives.
3. Closing Guantanamo
4 McCain Feingold

There is more...but #1 above should be enough to keep him from being our nominee. I really think people didn’t understand his position on amnesty from some things I’ve read. You can’t underestimate the savy of most voters apparently.

On top of that, did you see his speech last night and if so, compare that to Obama. It must have been past McCain’s bedtime, so boring. If he gets elected we’d better hope his VP is a good one because I think McCain will be lucky to make it the first 4 years.

When it comes to character, McCain is worse than any other candidate - his treatment of his first wife, his adultery, his screaming fits, his over the top lies just the past days along show how unethical he is.

He’s more conservative than McCain. Havent seen and Romney/Feingold or Romney/Leiberman or Romney/Kennedy bills running through the Senate.

I have met Mr. McCain - and he is nothing more than a little Napoleon syndrome, hedonistic, lying, bag of sh&t to put it politely. His entourage included a very very young, very good looking Hispanic girl (no more than about 19yo) who got into his limo with him. McCain can be no more trusted than the filth that is Hitlery and the Democrat party. If this is what the GOP has come to it is time to form a third party and vote our conscience.

Say again? They’re both big RINOs. Though Romney is more like a chameleon crossbred with a RINO.
