Even Hollywood couldn't have written a more ideal script for the Internal Revenue Service than actor Wesley Snipes' tax-fraud trial.

At a time when millions of Americans are buckling down to prepare their taxes, Snipes is being cast as a villainous example of the dangers of joining with Internet-fueled activists who claim the IRS has no authority to collect taxes.

It was fun!

So, your idea of fun is having someone demonstrate that you don't know what you're talking about?

OK. I guess you really are that stupid.

Yup.

Probably something on the order of $30 million. The penalties and interest alone will be more than most people make in a lifetime.

It’ll take him years to pay it. After he gets out of prison. He could get the max 3 years because the guidelines (which can be departed from) are very high (way, way above the max 3 years) when this much money is involved.

And, he’s now on notice that his positions are frivolous. The “Cheek” defense only works once. In this case, unlike Cryer and Kuglin, it didn’t work at all.

So why is this being reported like this?

Generally, I'd say because reporters often don't know what they're talking about, but I don't know what you mean by "this."

Why is he gloating?

Because he's an idiot? Because he was looking at 16 years and is happy that he can't get more than 3 and might get significantly less if the judge is lenient?

After all, he fell for the load of crap, didn't he. After he was told point blank by reputable tax practitioners that it was a load of crap. Amazing what people will believe when it's in their self-interest to do so.

Of course, it only worked for a few years and now he'll wind up paying probably something near twice what he would have paid if he had just paid what he owed in the first place.

Thanks again,
Yes, actually by ‘this’ I meant that I’d understood, (until reading your post) that he wouldn’t have to pay!
Over at WorldNetDaily they have a bunch of articles along the same lines: that you can prove to the IRS that there is no legal basis for taxing income.
It’s so strange that Drudge links to WND but not to Free Republic any longer.

They don't call it WorldNutDaily for nuthin'.

that you can prove to the IRS that there is no legal basis for taxing income.

Which is why I was giving the earlier clueless poster so much grief about posting links to utter crap.

This TP garbage is capable of ruining more than just your finances, it can ruin your life.

I actually used that $50 gold coin (worth 800$) in my economics class today! (commodity money...) (I’m not trying to teach them tax-evasion)

No need to travel. I get to enjoy communism right here in Ohio.
You got the watered down version. Should try either of the Coasts for a good Old School taste of Communism.

The employer and the employee were telling the IRS they were earning $50/wk. and paying taxes on $50/wk. yitbos
Yea. I spent the last four years working for a guy who paid half in cash. Wouldn't pay all in check no matter how much I insisted. I declared it( misc income), because sooner or later, it's gonna come up! Sounds good? No. He laid me off- so I only got half the unemployment comp. Plus I've banked half of the Social Security I would have (just in case they still are around when I get old!)Harder to get a decent loan, since it showed half of what I was earning.
