Let’s face it: the majority of those who supported Fred Thompson did so because they sincerely believed that he was the only reliable conservative in the race. Few questioned his commitment to conservative principles. Not even his opponents, who picked on his speaking style and campaign schedule rather than his policy proposals, questioned his principles.
Upon Thompson’s withdrawal, Mitt Romney released the following statement: “Throughout this campaign, Fred Thompson brought a laudable focus to the challenges confronting our country and the solutions necessary to meet them. He stood for strong conservative ideas and believed strongly in the need to keep our conservative coalition together.”
Wow! One heck of an admission for a candidate whose campaign has centered on claiming the embodiment of Reaganite principles.
Romney then said that Thompson “focused on pulling together the old Reagan coalition, the conservative coalition of social, economic and foreign policy conservatives . . . And so his leaving the race is sad for those who were big fans of his, but it probably helps my effort in terms of bringing together those Reagan coalition individuals, and it probably will be a bit of a boost for me.”

I am no expert on McCain and his political proclivities. I have seen analysis that pointed to him having a long-standing record of voting in the right direction on pro-life issues. If that’s wrong, oh well.
There are other political issues that have driven me from his camp, and I cannot abide the idea of returning.
BTW - From my point of view, any soldier deserves appreciation for their service, and those who suffer for their service (such as McCain) doubly so. But, recognizing honorable service does not forgive the transgressions committed afterward.
Which is why Benedict Arnold is known for being a traitor, and not a quality military officer - when he was actually both.
I agree. I also believe that if and when Fred endorses he will endorse Mitt Romney. Fred may be waiting until after the Florida vote. If McCain happens to take Florida and Mitt comes in second, Fred’s endorsement of Mitt before Super Tuesday would really give Mitt a boost. I do not believe that Fred would even consider endorsing McCain. McCain's votes on immigration, cutting taxes, military & war issues, rights of terrorists are all wrong! I heard Mitt on FOX, Mark Levin, and then this morning on the Bill Bennett show. I will be happy to give my vote to Mitt today!
All choices are losers in this election. I chose revolt. If that means Hillary then the moderate/liberal republicans who supported Mitt, Mcinsane, and Huck while ignoring and campaigning against more conservative candidates like Fred are the ones to blame.
Don’t expect me to taste the crap pie you baked. This elections loss is on Mittbots more than anyone else. They refused to support a real conservative and backed a photogenic liar. There was plenty of warning from folks that he is unsupportable by many. You wanted it, you got it.

If I have to I will hold my nose and vote for Romney, but I will never, ever, under any circumstances, vote for McCain: illegal alien amnesty, gang of 14, McCain-Feingold. In that order.

Dirty tricks in a campaign is one thing. But when you do it with our troops, you’ve crossed the line.
If you are willing to tell a lie—a significant one—regarding the war for personal political gain, what can we expect from you as president?

I won’t support socialism in any way at all. If the GOP expects to ever get me or my family to vote for them again they will have to move waaaaay right. There are 15 folks in my family who are playing this exactly as I am, and we have NEVER agreed 100 percent before.
The GOP needs to change or die. I really don’t care which.
Sorry. That isn’t going to happen. Moderates in the GOP are handing this election to the Dems. Don’t come crying to me when it does.

Do your principles also include not voting and thus making it possible for the party of traitors to finish shredding our constitution and republic? I’m a Fredhead and I will with much disgust vote for the GOP candidate in order to try to make sure that the party of degenerates do no gain full power.
Romney is a RINO in the same way as UpChuck Hagel from my state. He will get my vote if he is the nominee because the alternative is to have the party of traitors in full control. If that happens our constitution and republic will be damaged forever.
I won't embrace any of the remaining candidates, none are people who I could feel comfortable with as president, much less embrace. I will vote for either Romney or Huck in the primary, I haven't decided which, but ONLY as a vote AGAINST either of the other two who shouldn't even be allowed on a Republican ballot.
The sad part of this disastrous primary is that there were good conservative candidates in the field at one time, but they were all rejected by so-called conservative Republican voters and we are now left with four liberal RINOs to choose from. If conservative Republicans keep on voting for RINOs because they aren't quite as repugnant as the Democrat opponents we will keep on getting nothing but RINOs as our candidates. If Republicans don't get back to supporting, nominating, and electing conservatives after this year's fiasco I will change my registration to Independent after 50 years as a registered Republican and voting a straight GOP ticket.
I won't be leaving the GOP, the GOP began leaving me when every conservative who has entered a GOP primary race since Reagan's last term was soundly rejected by Republican voters, and this year's fiasco has made it clear that it's only going downhill from here on.
Romney will only beat Hillary IF all republicans turn out and vote for him regardless of the fact that he is a made-up RINO. He, like a lot of other republicans past and present does not have the nads to stand up and actually fight the democraps. They will play the game down and dirty and unless he is ready to set aside the useless idea that “we must be civil, not stoop to their level” then the bitch will win. I don’t believe he has what it will take because he won’t want to be seen as “mean”.

Apparently you fail to realize that Romney will want a second term, so he can’t betray the voters who put him in office the first time. He’s a lot smarter than the elder Bush.
