McCain's ACU Ratings Randall Hoven
Senator John McCain's lifetime rating of 82.3% from the American Conservative Union is often cited as proof that he is conservative. Here is a closer look at that 82.3 rating.
First, a rating of 82.3 is not really that high. It puts Senator McCain in 39th place among senators serving in 2006, the latest year for which the ACU has its ratings posted online. For that most recent year in particular, McCain scored only 65, putting him in 47th place for that year. Ben Nelson (D-NE) and Chuck Hagel (R-NE), for example, scored 64 and 75, respectively, in 2006.

I don’t like McCain but why do the polls show him to be the only one who can defeat The Hildebeast or Obama?
Unfortunately, I don’t care for Romney either but it looks like we’re going to be stuck with one of those two.
I think I’m depressed............
I almost used a more insulting word.
It’s worse than that. I’ve got posters insinuating I’m a traitor for not voting for one.
Reasons for supporting McCain:
1. War hero status. (wasn’t a very good pilot) 2. Only Repub who can beat the Dim candidate. (not) 3. Straight talker (also not) (how about convenience liar?)
The polls also showed Dole would beat Clinton. LOL
McCain could not and will not beat Hillary.
People are waking up to the guy...
You can predict a lot of bad things with McCain because of his record. He's a classic deal cutter. It doesn't matter what the deal is, he's in. How else do you explain him pairing with the socialist loon from Cheesconsin for CFR?
4. The surge
Not only did he vote against them, he is lying now about why. He claims now it’s because there were not enough spending cuts to “pay for them” (never mind the implicit rejection of supply side economics). But at the time he echoed the Democrat talking points, claiming the cuts were too much geared “towards the rich”, and not enough to the poor and middle class (again, never mind that the poor don’t pay any income tax). McCain is simply lying about his record, and lying about his opponents records. The man is not to be trusted.
Some people are easily fooled, obviously.
I just checked Romney’s site, and there are a lot of FredHeads on there now who are openly supporting Mitt, and are being welcomed with open arms.
I’m surprised that Chuck Hagel had as high a score as he did for 2006 (I bet the number for ‘07 is lower when it comes out). The fact that McAmnesty is lower than that speaks volumes.
“The polls also showed Dole would beat Clinton. LOL”

I must say that I don’t remember that happening. I know that right after the GOP Convention, Dole closed to within 4 percentage points. That lasted about three days.
McCain is not perfect but he is the least likely to engage or approve of PorkBarrel Spending. He has consistantly been for the War even though he did not agree with the Bush Administration about the prosecution of the war in IRAQ until the Surge was implemented. He is a far better choice than any Democratic candidate this year. He can win while MITT may not be able to. The Democrats have the edge due to the facts that
1. 8 consecutive years of the GOP in the White House
2. GWB 43 has become a liability for the GOP. I like Bush. However many voters in 2008 do not and that fact will influence many of them as they go into the voting booth and cast a vote.
After Thompson dropped out I realized that my Ideal Candidate for POTUS can not win. I am willing to support the one who emerges from the RNC Convention with the nomination in hand. If it is McCain, I will support him and Vote. I will also encourage others to vote for him rather than let any Democrat win this year.
He supported the surge, he didn’t create it.
If the Dems got smart and ran someone like Ben Nelson I think they would easily win the presidency. Problem is a “moderate” could never get nominated.
It would seem that McCain racked up high ACU points prior to 1999 ... and has been heading downhill every since.
Also, some of these 'ratings' outfits are deceiving... because they include procedural votes, committee votes, and rollcall-type votes.
If ACU just gave ONE point for each issue, I bet McCain would score MUCH lower on the conservative scale.
He is still bitter about losing to President Bush and his votes are more against him than anything else (my opinion).
Hence, his "maverick", media-loving status.
Bottom line, he has thrown away his principles and I will not vote for him - ever...
Apologies to any who feel I am spamming this message on campaign threads, but it is an important message on a key vote which needs to get out.
All the Fredheads I know have gone over to Mitt. Every one of them.
Fred is NOT in favor of closing GITMO
McCain is in favor of closing GITMO
Huck is in favor of closing GITMO
Fred is for securing our borders
McCain and Huck are very very weak on border security
The FredHeads are coming around, and woe to McCainiacs, Huckleberries, and liberals of all stripes.
