The weeks-long brouhaha over Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghmans use of the word lynch reached its next logical point last week, when football legend Jim Brown called out Tiger Woods for failing to speak out right away about the comments, and for waiting until it was politically correct to say something.
Originally about an announcers unfortunate use of a phrase, the controversy has mutated into one about media ethics and now, finally, about how much responsibility the worlds most dominant athlete has to right the wrongs of the world.
A quick overview, for those who havent been following it: On a January 4 Golf Channel broadcast, in which she and others were discussing how the rest of the PGA field could compete with Woods, Tilghman suggested that the players should "lynch him in a back alley. Through his agent, Woods, who described himself as a friend of the anchor, initially said he didnt read any ill will into the comments.
Al Sharpton approached the situation with his usual class, issuing a strongly worded statement in which he demanded Tilghman be fired although he appeared totally unaware that Tilghman is a female.

“one thing on his mind...golf”
You are certainly right about that! What a great show he put on yesterday in spite of the bogeys coming in.
I may disagree with most of what Reverend Al says and stands for, but I have to give him credit here for being consistent. A racist comment is no less a racist comment because is wasn't uttered by a white man. Now, when he calls out Barack Hussein Obama or Hil-liar-y Clintoon for their racist statements, then the Rev might actually be moving the dialog in a proper direction.
I'm not holding my breath waiting for this to happen, however.
I don't know about that. Have you seen his wife?
Has-beens and never-wasses like Jim Brown and Al Sharpton cannot abide blacks ‘making it on their own’ and not taking marching orders on what to be offended by from them. Tiger has handled this with clas and dignity, as he does just about everything else.
I’ll burn my copy of the Dirty Dozen and go buy a Nike Sasquach.
Damn....at what point is it just not fair???
(one announcers words)
Can it be that he’s getting better? Is that possible?
My point exactly, with her waiting at home, he can still golf like he did this weekend.
I’m still scratching my head over that pitch shot he made from behind the green.
He’s REALLY in the “zone”!!!
I thought Ferrighty was going to have a heart attack! What a shot. It would be luck if it were me but Tiger continues to amaze all golfers.
Every few weeks I end up with similar shot on the same hole at my course, but in dry conditions. I have yet to make the ball do what I want. If it were wet, forget it!
Trust your luck!
I keep asking myself, “what would Phil do?”
Phil is unbelievable around the green too.
I think what Dana Jacobson said was much worse. Where’s
Rev. AL on that?
I remember that...Oprah was leading and goading and Tiger just stayed true to how he was raised. Oprah got ticked and Tiger got alot of respect.
FWIW, I am saddened (for the maternal grandparents) by Obama’s words and actions and his (Obama’s) disrespect/ignoring of the family that raised him.
.
Obama never mentions his maternal grandparents who raised him, fed him, clothed him, paid for his education, provided for a roof over his head...
Obama visits, calls...his father’s people ( tribe ) in Kenya quite often. Obama said that one his proudest moments was when one of his half brothers converted to Islam.
His actions speak very loudly.
