Conservatives Lose Along With Fred Thompson
North Star Writers Group ^ | January 28, 2008 | Paul Ibrahim

I never thought I would be picky in choosing a Republican presidential nominee. After all, the gap between Republicans and Democrats has become so very wide on issues such as taxes, free trade, abortion, education and foreign policy that it didn’t seem to matter which Republican was nominated. In spite of tiny divergences with conservative principles, I thought, any Republican nominee would be a Godsend against a liberal Democrat.

How wrong I was.

My assumption was that no candidate would even make the cut to the Republican shortlist without adherence to the principles of the Reagan coalition. But who thought it would end up being too much to expect candidates to be economic, social and foreign policy conservatives?

If McInsane wins the nomination, we will get what we deseve......8 years of Clintoon

Ditto for Romney. We probably should start planning ahead for what we will do to resist during the coming reign of Democrat terror.

So this election has already been determined?

NOT AT ALL!

I for one will do all I can to ensure that the Hildebeast or OB stay in the senate.

The next President will appoint at east 2 justices to the SC...we need somebody at least mouthing conservative ideals.

But, but, but....

That will be nothing but a vote for McCain/Hillary/Obama!!! (you choose which one)

You are wasting the vote that many died for, you should support Mitt to protect future generations!

(Imagine I am saying that with disdain and disgust and a hint of arrogance to get the full effect)

“Conservatives “lost” because we (I’m an Indy con) didn’t get a young, healthy-looking true conservative to represent us. Thompson, you fail to mention, had just gone thru a debilitating prostate cancer treatment and looked/looks 10 years older than he is (64).”

That is absolutely ridiculous and unbelievably shallow. Although it is important for us to nurture young conservatives and bring them into the spotlight, the fact that Fred Thompson is no spring chicken was irrelevant. That the campaign was not run well is a valid argument.

...And that is what could end up happening IF that happens because the American Evita will go after anything looking conservitive.

“My wife always says “Too bad Thompson wasn’t in Mitt Romney’s body””

Did she believe that or was she issuing an indictment of American voters?

Ironically, I find Thompson much more attractive and appealing than Romney. Pretty boy looks have never done anything for me.

I'm doing all I can to get voters to seriously think about McCain's real intentions.

There is one way that one of the remaining candidates would for sure get my vote: If his VP candidate was Fred Thompson or someone like Fred Thompson. Remember every Senator directly elected President has failed to live out his term, and was succeeded by his Veep (Harding and Kennedy).

Thompson did not have prostate cancer, that’s Rudy. Thompson had a form of lymphoma which is neither debilitating nor aggressive. He reported no symptoms and his ongoing treatment was not debilitating or deadly in the near(10+ yrs) term. You need to have your ducks in a row before you start making pronouncements like that. People spouting false information (include the MSM in this) is what hobbled the campaign.

I don't know if I have ever read an article that expressed my feelings and perspective as much as this does. To me it's right on the money.

I guess the real problem I have with a lot of folks who have been posting in support of these RINO candidates is not so much that they support one or the other, but that they wholeheartedly support them with conviction. Now of course that does not include everyone. Some have arrived at one RINO or the other because they feel that candidate is the best of a very flawed field of candidates. But what is it with these folks who actually are inspired by these liberal Republican candidates?...and where the hell did they come from?...and how do we get them out of the party?

Pretty much the way I feel. So, many Freepers prefer Mitt over McCain, but I can’t see enough difference to stop me from writing in Fred.

The tiny bright part of this whole horrible debacle is that I get to watch six of the Liberal Seven Dwarves succumb to EPIC FAIL.

So you would trust Mitt to choose conservative SC justices?? I wouldn’t trust that flip-flopper to do anything unless there was something in it for him. Likewise, McCain. I will write in Fred.

Fred lost because too many conservatives vote with their crotch (the tingly bits) rather than their heads.
