Fox News' Special Report noted that "in recent days, Thompson's aides promoted him as a vice presidential pick." Romney was the first to weigh in." Asked if Thompson would be on his "shortlist," Romney answered, "Anybody who ran for office in this field is a very strong individual and should be considered as a VP nominee for me or somebody else. He is a terrific and highly capable guy."

In 1976 neither President Gerald Ford nor Ronald Reagan, the challenger, won on the first ballot. Ford did win on the second, so while not technically brokered, some delegates did switch. Last brokered was before that. U.S. Army Retired |
That’s actually pretty non-committal. Tactfully vague.
I think that Michael Steele from Maryland, has a lot of potential.
What are the numbers there? 36 % registered? And what? They all reside in Northern California?
I don't know what the numbers are, but I believe they are better than that. I DO know for certain that it's really the opposite of what you imply with regard to where they reside -- it's the Liberal Democrats who reside in specific "artsy" and metropolitan regions that are 99 percent coastal. The "blue" in California is restricted to heavily populated but extremely small areas of the sate -- and even there, out of the 14 coastal counties in California (this is a large and overwhelmingly rural, agricultural state) four and five of those coastal counties still remained faithfully Republican Red along with the entire interior of the state with one or two exceptions, in the last two Republican presidential elections.
The election is boiling down to a national struggle over illegal immigration and open borders. The media is pushing the economy as the biggest issue.
But, everywhere you turn around a political move is being made to enable and embed illegals in this country.
If McCain and Clinton end up the nominees, you have illegal immigration even worse than what Bush has done.
Romney says continuously that he would secure the border, but I’m not 100% convinced.
I noticed in the debate this week not much was mentioned on immigration.
We must keep the subject discussion active, and press Romney daily on it!
***”Promise them whatever you have to.” - Mitt Romney***
That’s not what he said - but nice of you to jump in and get it wrong.
Perhaps he has "killed" the Republican party however considering our demise in '01 and the tragedy it created Dubya' performed admirably in keeping us afloat during dire times placed upon us by nothing that Dubya' had a hand in creating.
Mitt is doing what all of the candidates do. He’s being polite.
Let’s all calm down.
Perhaps your endeavors to misconstrue would be more fulfilled if you directed your focus to another.
To someone who took my statement as a derogatory one perhaps?
Picking a more CONSERVATIVE running mate is exactly what Mitt needs to do, to shore up the base and get out our vote.
And I think FDT as VP could be the "wise head" who gives Romney sound counsel ("Are you sure you want to go with MANDATES?") and keep him truer to conservatism/federalism. I think Mitt is basically a pragmatist with conservative instincts, while Fred is a philosophical conservative who "gets it."
Thanks for the link. I will check it out.
In that case I can only suggest that you look for another country where things are a lot better. right?
I don’t think so.Yes, it is. And Ronald Reagan would be proud.
Huckabee brought state government to bear when the state wanted it to, either for hard infrastructure, the soft infrastructure, or for the temporary only help of what RR called the "social safety net."
That is what states do. Now, running for president, Huckabee continues to maintain a 10th Amendment view -- unlike Romney for instance, who offers auto companies federal corporate welfare.
Yes, kindergarten teacher.
Fellow FReepers all, I submit this as exhibit A of the superior, nanny tone that has, since before Thompson even entered the race, always struck me as a consistently worrisome trait in Romney's core supporters. Their presumption of authority and superiority comes to them so naturally that they don't even see it themselves and are puzzled and confused that anyone could take issue with them on that basis alone. It reflects the very nature of the candidate they support -- nannyish Mitt Romney.
Any suggestions fish hawk?
My friends in FL (he’s a retired Navy jet pilot) voted early—for Mitt.
I extend my deepest condolences that your friend is a dunce. U.S. Army Retired |
