I know that Maureen Dowd was on the trip, but she was filing stories on the election, including ones with specific bylines implying she was in New Hampshire and not Jerusalem on primary day (the stories included first hand descriptions of events as if she were there).
The only thing they wanted to report from Bush's trip was any potential failures or something they could spin into a failure. Of course, they would have loved to be close (but not too close) if Bush were to be killed. That's a career maker for them. That's how an incompetent mook like Dan Rather made it to the big time.
The only reason I know that MoDo was on the ME trip was a story that was posted here about her getting sick on AF1 and Bush sending his own doctor to treat her. A couple of blogs, like LGF and PowerLine, picked up on the fake byline story as well from someone in Jerusalem.
I remember from one dose that Maureen Dowd was actually taken ill on this trip and was sorted out by the AF1 doctor but I suspect no mention of this from her.
Just read your post again was it not true then she was taken ill but some bogus report.

Good grief!! They are all losing their minds in this age of true fact-checking -— something that the NYTimes used to brag about.
And MoDo got dysentery on the trip, and
the President was nice enough to have
his doctor treat her and get her back
to the US on Air Force One. Think she
would’ve parted her viper lips long
enough to thank him publicly for his
kindness?? Not that I’ve read/heard.
