The Arizona African American Republican Committee is asking people to sign a petition to end the use of the N-word in all discourse, public and private. They are looking for 1000 signatures. Let's get 'em more!
I’m sorry that you think our Constitutionally guaranteed free-speech rights prohibit individuals or groups from attempting to influence the behavior of others. (”Behavior” includes speech, btw.) This insane expansion of the meaning of “rights” is one of the big problems we have in our country today.
You have a nice day!
whites should assuage their inherent imperfections (and the resulting heavy heart) through a relationship with God, not by kow-towing to a politically correct (i.e. liberal) agenda. This is useless, empty, fluff, and will not solve a thing.
I have a list of 489 greater problems this country faces, and this didn’t make the list. Oh, but it will give lefties and their fellow-travelers (even if they call themselves conservatives) a chance to get apoplectic and to beat their breasts in (false) indignation.
I agree with your points, connell. However, I think that some of the comments here demonstrate that many people believe they have the “right” to engage in uncivil speech, but that nobody else has the “right” to ask them to use better manners.
This leaves us with situations such as you face at a ball game, where if you politely asked the people cursing to stop, all you’d get is more profanity and possibly a physical assault.
You’re being disingenuous by equating N*gger with the coarsening of our public language.
Exactly, you're making my point better than I can. We can all agree a word is offensive, but that's where decorum, morales, values, and responsiblity have to take over witin a person. A person needs to decide to deem a word not worthy of useage and act accordly, but never be discouraged from exercising their right to free speech.
Remember, with free speech comes responsibility. If my tagline ever should be highlighted, now is the time.
No an neither is HO HO Ho
I don’t know what the N-word is. Nappy-headed?
That's CRAP!!! It's not about whether or not a person should or shouldn't, it's recognizing what the country was founded on. Free speech does not dictate which words you free to use, or what manners are deemed appropriate when using certain words does it?
If you can't understand the basis of the first admendment, you need to take a coarse in civil rights.
He is just a grass cutter.
We seem to have no common ground. Have a Guinness and a nice day!
Take it up with the Congressional White Caucus.
What's that you say? There is no Congressional White Caucus?
Isn’t this kind of like Congress going out and ‘officially’ renaming French Fries ‘Freedom Fries’ because France dissed us.
If someone ran a business and the supposed board members were renaming objects, discussing steroids and holding hearings so they could kow-tow with the ‘self appointed’ elite, WE would SHUT IT DOWN as being an unproductive sink hole where money was pumped into it to feed it....
That is like they keep claiming minorities and women get approx 25 or so % less than white males.
As a business owner, I would be foolish to not hire ALL women and minorities and put that extra money in my pocket.
Where do I intone any of your points in my comments? I agree with the attempts of individuals or groups to influence behavior. What I don't agree with is deception by liberal, socialistic agenda's to coerce others into thinking they have to give up their free speech rights because others may find some words offensive. Also there is a huge problem with these same liberal activist changing the syntax and meanings of certain words in society.
GAY = Alternative Lifestyle. Abortion = Choice. Those are two I can think of immediately. Now you tell me, whether or not it's crucial to "influence" the use these words when they offend me. How is this different from the backasswards agendize push of the socialist, liberal attempts to squelch certain speech?
So, are you hosting the Mark Twain book burning?
Very good point, word meaning changes over time. When I was a teenager we would use the f-word, amongst ourselves, for shock value. Never would you hear a girl use that word.
It is ironic. Yes, people have a legal right to use offensive terms toward others. And people have a right to ask others not to use offensive terms. What’s so confusing about that?
If one wants to make an argument that an individual or an organized group shouldn’t attempt to influence others’ speech ... well, okay, make the argument. But it has nothing to do with anyone’s Constitutional rights.
And you say the answer is 'N..A..GGERS'?? Dang!
I wuz pretty sure it was 'N..U..GGERS'.
I had an uncle that thought it was great fun to give me a nuggie at every opportunity. That was DAMNED annoying.
:)
