For 50 days, Giuliani had the Sunshine State nearly to himself........hes sucked up to Miami's Cuban vote, pandered in Cape Canaveral about the space program, tried to scare retirees in South Florida. There he is riding in a fire truck in a Miami parade, trailed by angry firefighters who blame him for multiple failures when NY was attacked.......in the Panhandle, he's the consummate Yankees fan trying to look down-home on the Redneck Riviera.
Yet, the more they see of Giuliani, the more his poll numbers tank...... Rudys campaign is in meltdown. Amazing how much voters bring up his tawdry personal life. They laugh about Rudy in drag and Rudy when he lived with a gay couple.....in a state full of mothers who live for phone calls from long-distance adult children, theres one thing they cant abide Rudys wreck of a family life......people roll their eyes over the story of how Giulianis third wife picked him up in a cigar bar while he was still married to the second Mrs. Hizzoner.
I heard no end of condemnation over the mayors estrangement from his two children. He spent more than anyone but Mitt Romney in NH, and finished a distant fourth. And as Michael Powell and Russ Buettner documented in a remarkable piece in the Times earlier this week, Giuliani ruled by crushing anyone who dared to cross him.

Down for the count-—LOL.
"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
Gotta agree with Mick and Keith there. I just sat and admired the headline for a few minutes before I could get past it to read the article.

Tired old tired old. Digest of old FR threads. Yawn.
...and have been for thirty years.
Giuliani’s campaign advisers are fools. They thought Giuliani could use his 9-11 hero status to launch him to the nomination without any retail politics. It turns out that there are no “bye” weeks in the political playoffs. The lesson to be learned here is that you have to show up to play in order to win. For that, I will give Mitt Romney credit for.
Why, does it matter?
Furthermore, has it occurred to you how incredibly misleading those phrases are as you attempt to attribute them to Romney?
Not misleading in the least.
His coincidental conversion on pro-life issues is too conveniently close to his presidential run. Maybe I will believe him if he retains those views a few years after he loses the election.
His gun record is self evident.
He’s second only to McCain in being a RINO. I would rather have the democrat than either of them.
It makes you wonder why Rudy wants the nomination for the big enchilada so badly now when he took two passes on ending Hillary's career twice in the last eight years.
In any case, I think it will be all over for him if he doesn't finish at least a strong second in Florida.
He may go on to Super Tuesday in hopes of collecting enough delegates in states like New Jersey to bargain with. Time will tell.
Just saw him on Hannity and Colmes, predicting he would win Florida and win the nomination. He didn’t have much conviction in his voice.
“Yet, the more they see of him here, the more his poll numbers tank. “
“Liz, you and I were predicting this months ago!”
I’m sure I read on FR as early as April or May 07 that Rudy was sure to tank. It’s common sense; which is why we didn’t hear it from the MSM.
That IS a good headline.
His greatest strength as a leader in New York city was that he didn’t care what the New York Times thought. Ever. He didn’t compromise to gain political favor (much more often than not anyway) in the end, this left him with no base locally or nationally.
He also has a terrible tendency (fed by his ego no doubt) to completely mishandle his desire to be a king maker (Endorsing Cuomo over pataki, not running against Hillary) always holding his support and funds till the worst possible moment, by which it was usually too late and poorly timed. This is not the sign of a bad leader, it’s the sign of a poor politician.
At rare moments I have seen the kind of passion and brilliance that can inspire and gain the support of those that might otherwise disagree with him. It was hardly ever visible in this campaign.
The political side is his weakness, and as much as Conservatives and Republicans like to think of themselves above that sort of thing... as we can see with our crop of candidates substance matters for very little.
As a New Yorker, is there any truth to what they say about Rudy and Bernie?
Mitt's just too perfect and too, oh, I don't know -- grey. Not the hair, mind you, his persona. Rudy's got a bit of fighting spirit in him and that appeals to me.
And before I get flamed, let me just say that if McCain, Romney and Huckabee supporters get to choose their candidates for emotional reasons, then I reserve the right to, too. Yippee!. Now that Fred's out of the race I can stop thinking logically and have fun along with the rest of the party.
It's actually quite liberating . . . and sobering when you think about how we'll probably lose in November because we don't have a damned thing different to offer.
Nope. I spend three weeks a year in Panama City Beach. They're proud of the "Redneck Riviera" moniker.
It doesn't get much more conservative than the Florida panhandle. It's a joy to flee Ohio for three weeks a year and soak in the love.
Not just the NYT, he doesn't care what anybody thinks. Evidence of his arrogant self-absorption.......he wants it HIS way. Wants to do what suits him, and have everyone sit back and say nothing.
He baited and demeaned conservatives---arrogantly said "so don't vote for me"----when so/cals sounded the alarm at his religious cleansing of the Repub party, his kicking so/cals to the curb.
His flop as a candidate was predictable----and exactly what he deserves.
Oh yeah, like he really means it.
I’m operating on his record. Like I do with all candidates. I never listen to debates or sully my opinion with a lot of blathering lies and false promises. “As they have done... so shall they do” is my political commandment.
