With Fred Thompson out of the presidential race, who's a self-respecting conservative to go for? Could it be, maybe, perhaps, a certain Republican-libertarian from Texas?
That's one question perplexing California state Sen. Tom McClintock, possibly the second-most-famous California Republican currently in office after Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.
McClintock created a stir two months when he endorsed Thompsons presidential candidacy. Having run for governor, lieutenant governor and state controller, McClintock has shown that while he has not won a statewide contest, he can win GOP primaries, which conservatives tend to dominate. So heading into the Feb. 5 primary, McClintocks endorsement is seen as important in California.

You may find out that his plan is good. Many of his policies are popular with Americans so the Legislative Branch may need the kind of persuasion from their constituents that they got during the nomination of Harriet Myers for Ron to achieve his policies. The American people may not tolerate a Congress with two obstructionist political parties working together to undermine the will of the people through the Executive. Or would they?
You have one zapper, but thousands of mosquitoes go to it. They can’t resist the light.
Then you shouldn’t.
The process of electing a POTUS is very much akin to the hiring process of a CEO.
Would you hire one who could not outline his plans for moving your company to greater heights?
BUMP! Blackbird.
It's not only that. It's also that he was so grudgingly slow to dis the outrageous tinfoil Un-truth squad. I had enough of that kinda crappola when Jimmy Carter was Presidunce and I don't want America to EVER go there again.
Dr. Paul also strikes me as another idiot that would pull another massively stupid trick like Jimmah did with the Shah of Iran, giving the murderous muslims another giant leap in taking over another country like maybe Lebanon, or some other.
Dr. Paul would probably take up with the Indian Gaming curse just like my disappointing standard bearer Tom McClintock here in CA. I grew up believing we were working on assimilating native Americans into our society, not setting up War Lords and little sovereign fifedoms isolated within the freest nation on earth.
What ever happened to that? I'll tell you what... Liberal plantationism, pure and simple and I still refuse to buy it. Gambling destroys too many lives just as booze has destroyed too many native American's lives!!!
Now if you can subscribe to that kind of libertarianism, along with dissing the WOD, then I say more power to ya! It's certainly a free country. It's not what's been in any Republican platform, my FRiend, so what's up with that???
I'm at the point with what's left of all these candidate clowns that they're all not measuring up and seem determined to simply sink to the politics of expediency and "every man for himself," bar none!!!
I know none of them can possibly be perfect, but my goodness, they seem hell bent on goin the other danged way... just as far as they think we will let them go!!!
At this poing I'm fully disenchanted with the seven dwarfs!!! Phhhhhhhht!!! Which one can you stomach???
Paint me a scenario in which the United States “loses” to Islamists.
Jimmy Carter sure put our troops in danger trying to rescue hostages in Iran after he screwed the pooch so badly nobody could seem to get anything done. Even Ronald Reagan sent the Marines to Lebanon and must have assumed those crazies would be too scared of 'em to ever try and blow them to kingdom come!!! WRONG!!!
He needs to think long and hard about this.
= )
======= I recently reviewed an issues and positions statement from 1992 contrasting and comparing Romney and Kennedy in their senate battle that year. There were about 20 items listed. On about 18 of them Romney was as conservative as any candidate could be. Only on two of themabortion and equal rights (code-speak for gay rights)was he not.
Your children living under Sharia law.
No way.
I see FR is being invaded by DUmmies today.
The left will sweep over all of us like a plague of locusts and foul every institution of government in this country and there won't be any magical flock of seagulls coming to gobble up the leftist locusts!!! As Rush said today, there will be a landslide of monumental proportions and guess who will get blamed for it... just guess!!!
Interesting R. P.
Ross Perot
Ron Paul
Deja vu
Then don't support a status-quo RINO who will keep us on the path we've been on which is the destruction of our sovereignty, the destruction of our constitution and civil liberties, the move towards the NAU, out of control debt that has taken us to the verge of bankrupcty.
It is the neoconservatives (and neolibs) who are destroying the country. If you, as you said, truly prefer that our country doesn't end, then support the only true constitutionalist and patriot, Ron Paul.
Yeah... It’s kinda like Pete and Repeat, here in CA’s Governor chair...
since nobody left will (by their past record - not current claims) close the border, they're all bad on the war. This war is with fundamentalist Islam, not a couple of countries on another continent. That said you're right Ron Paul's a moonbat.
Let's hope for a brokered convention, and a new candidate that doesn't cause some major conservative faction to stay home. All four remaining Republicans cause someone to stay home, and the bleating of their partisans about other's principled opposition to their chosen Rino gets old.
In his Farewell Address, George Washington reminded succeeding generations of Americans that, “Honesty is always the best policy.” From the bottom of our hearts, we wish that we were not forced to make an issue of the moral weakness—the integrity deficit—of Ron Paul’s opponents. Yet no one can listen to the posturing of the other contenders in both major parties, without remarking the absence of reference to the specific language of our written Constitution. There are endless appeals to the interests or demands of particular groups or factions of the population; endless pandering to what are perceived as voting blocks; but no discussion of where the authority is supposed to reside; none of legal bases for the programs, schemes and policies being promised.
Ron Paul, alone, recognizes that the Federal Government has no power—no legal existence outside the Constitution. Yet each of the other candidates, at one time or another, has been required to swear obedience to that Constitution—to swear to uphold that Constitution. If they care so little about those solemn oaths, as to fail even to discuss Constitutional questions in seeking the most solemn office under that Constitution, how can one trust them in anything? Ultimately, the determinative issue in 2008, must be the integrity of Ron Paul versus the shameless, amoral, opportunism of his foes. Those who chose to ignore that issue, turn their backs on duty, wisdom and providence. No personal interest, no rationalization, no excuse, can possibly justify that betrayal.
