I think it is his Southern vernacular coming through. I know many people who use the word 'planted' for 'place' or 'sit'. I have used it on occasion but not often. The word 'planted' as he used it sounds OK to me ... He's still an idiot though for not knowing the difference between Syria and Jordan.
I hate these good-ol- boy quips. They drive me insane, but the those he has managed to brainwash just love them. I don’t know if I can take any more of these!
