Is that some southern colloquialism? I've never heard of people planting easter eggs.

I think it is his Southern vernacular coming through. I know many people who use the word 'planted' for 'place' or 'sit'. I have used it on occasion but not often. The word 'planted' as he used it sounds OK to me ... He's still an idiot though for not knowing the difference between Syria and Jordan.
