Dennis Kucinich has acknowledged reality and will withdraw from the presidential race. Unfortunately, he spent so much time on a long-shot bid that he now faces a serious challenger for his day job in Congress:
Democrat Dennis Kucinich is abandoning his second, long-shot bid for the White House as he faces a tough fight to hold onto his other job U.S. congressman. In an interview with Cleveland's Plain Dealer, the six-term House member said he was quitting the race and would make a formal announcement on Friday.
"I will be announcing that I'm transiting out of the presidential campaign," Kucinich said. "I'm making that announcement tomorrow about a new direction."
Kucinich has received little support in his presidential bid; he got 1 percent of the vote in the New Hampshire primary and was shut out in the Iowa caucuses. He did have a devoted following.
A "devoted following"? That's one way of putting it. He brought in the UFO vote and the impeachment constituencies, but even the anti-war factions knew better than to put their efforts behind the candidate who once bragged about having the Grandfather Twilight endorsement.
Kucinich has more concerns ahead of him. He now faces a challenge for his House seat, one that appears serious. Joe Cimperman, a Cleveland councilman, wants to oust the "absentee Congressman" and replace him with a more center-Left agenda. He wants a two-state solution in Israel only when the Palestinians prove themselves a partner for peace, an orderly withdrawal from Iraq that doesn't destabilize the region, and increased sanctions against Iran for its pursuit of uranium enrichment.
Have Cleveland voters tired of the Kucinich extreme? It certainly didn't appeal to other Americans. Cleveland may have decided on a return to reality as well.
I saw a UFO once...at least I couldn’t identify it :)
I think this is one of those tree falls in the forest things, as in: If a candidate withdraws from the race and nobody in the entire world gives a tinkers damn, does it really matter that he withdrew?
“nobody in the entire world gives a tinkers damn, does it really matter that he withdrew?” Yes! He is the only one who can get those 14 votes from Hitlery. More importantly just who are the losers from the great state of Ohio who keep voting for this little creep?
