WASHINGTON (AP) - New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg accused the White House and Congress on Wednesday of negotiating a shortsighted economic stimulus package after years of lousy financial management.
``We can't borrow our way out of this. The jig is up,'' Bloomberg said in prepared remarks to be delivered Wednesday evening before the U.S. Conference of Mayors, which is honoring his environmental efforts.
The billionaire mayor, who is said to be considering an independent presidential bid yet denies that he is a candidate, said the $150 billion stimulus package being hammered out between Democratic and Republican leaders won't be enough.
``There's just one problem: It's not going to make much of a difference because we've already been running huge deficits,'' Bloomberg said.
Some of those urging Bloomberg to run for president say his record as a CEO is his biggest selling point in a time of economic turmoil.
Despite his public denials, Bloomberg is conducting an analysis of voter data in all 50 states to better understand his chances as a third-party candidate. Aides have said he would delay a decision until after the major parties produce clear front-runners.
The metropolitan mayor used a farming analogy to heap scorn on the current crop of Washington leaders.
``They spent most of this decade running up bills with reckless abandon and when the economy started heading for the ditch, the special interest giveaways got even bigger. They ate the seed corn without worrying about the next year's harvest. Well, the next year is here, and the seed corn is gone. All we've got is a barn full of IOU's,'' he said.

The reincarnation of Ross Perot
I could care less what this mental midget thinks.
1992 is at our door.
the media will give this boob plenty of coverage, to legitimize him as some sort of national figure
``We can’t borrow our way out of this. The jig is up,’’
Hate to say it but I think he is at last correct. Solutions brought to you by the same Butt-Heads who are largely responsible for this bubble.
To the extent that he damages Billary’s bid, I say go for it. I think his candidacy would tank her for sure.
He rather just tax you
hey bloomie-its not “borrowing” 150 Billion if you cut 300 billion of spending while doing it.

Bloomberg is right. I’m not voting for him but he is right on this issue. And about the only one saying it. Maybe Paul but I don’t listen to Paul any more.
Bloomberg's right on this one.
I'm going to need both a muffler and tires this year. He's wrong.
How does an $800 advance on your 2009 tax refund (or an $800 increase in your 2009 tax liability) help you in that regard? Increasing the number of payroll exemptions for a few months would give you the same result (i.e., more cash now, to be repaid when you file your taxes next year).
He's right. His problem is that his "fix" would be a tax increase.
I spam this around because I think it’s important:
CALLER: I believe it 100%. And, you know what? The fact that the media doesn’t want to follow Romney is the very reason why I want to follow him! Who cares if they approve?
RUSH: Well, you know, this is one thing the Drive-Bys are not going to learn, they will not learn. They’re going to do everything they can to try to shape your opinion without realizing they are driving you the opposite direction they want you to go. It’s a fascinating question, these people that say that they aren’t going to vote if Huckabee or McCain get the nomination. Now, we haven’t discussed this, because the time hasn’t really been right, but lurking out there is the mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg. I think I mentioned this one time. I play golf at certain places in the Northeast, or I play golf at a place down here where there are a lot of members who summer from the Northeast. And they love the guy.
These are Republicans. “What do you think about Bloomberg?” They see Bloomberg — these guys are all business types — they see Bloomberg and the Bloomberg Network and his 13-billion-dollar wealth, they see somebody that’s cool. “The guy has that much business savvy.” Anyway, he’s lurking out there as a potential third-party candidate. He’s out there doing polls to find out if this person is a Democrat nominee, if this person is the Republican nominee, do I get in? And I’ll guarantee you, if Huckabee is our nominee, he gets in. He’s going to realize that there are a whole lot more Republican votes he might be able to get if Huckabee is the nominee. McCain, I don’t think he’d step on. Then the question becomes, if a guy like Bloomberg gets in, does he hurt Hillary or the Republican more? There’s no consensus on that.
Just an oblique Chuck Schumer reference.
I see — thanks. LOL.
