Rush Limbaugh: May Not Support GOP Nominee
newsmax.com ^ | January 22, 2008 4:34 PM | staff

Posted on 01/22/2008 9:14:16 PM PST by kellynla

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh stunned his listeners by announcing that he might not support the Republican presidential nominee in this year’s election.

Limbaugh said on Monday’s show: "I can see possibly not supporting the Republican nominee this election, and I never thought that I would say that in my life."

The reason: “You don’t have a genuine down-the-list conservative” among the GOP candidates.

“Wherever you go here in this roster of candidates, you're going to be able to point out ‘not conservative, what he did there is not conservative’” Rush said.

The Republican front-runners want the nomination “because it's their turn,” he also stated. “We tried that in '96 with Bob Dole and now they're running the same scenario…

"I'm telling ya, it's gonna come down to which guy do we dislike the least. And that's not necessarily good."

After Rush’s pronouncements, Los Angeles Times blogger Andrew Malcolm wrote: “Across the country, people were dropping their coffee cups, choking on sandwiches, fainting and driving off the road. The king of conservative talk radio not supporting the Republican nominee?”

But Limbaugh’s remarks are not quite so surprising in light of statements he made about GOP candidates Mike Huckabee and John McCain last week:

“I'm here to tell you, if either of these two guys get the nomination, it's going to destroy the Republican Party. It's going to change it forever, be the end of it. A lot of people aren't going to vote. You watch.”

never heard of them (pharmaceutical companies) getting (federal) money to subsidize research...

Tell you what.

Go to Google, and type in the search words "federal funding for pharmaceutical research" .... and then get back to me.

Here is the first article (down bottom) which came up when I did the search, and there are thousands of sources documenting the billions and billions of dollars in federal funding.

What do you think STEM CELL research is??? So the government can clone their IRS agents??

NO, it is for benefit of the major pharmaceutical companies, and bio-genetic companies.

Bottom line -- the federal government subsidizes nearly ALL segments of American business for research and other things.

So will I. He’s at least a good and moral man with good ideas for economy if nothing else. The other two are losers in my humble (NOT) opinion.

A candidate is more than just his checklist of issues. It’s the entire package. Executive skills, ability to inspire people, drive, etc. So many here on FR are obsessed with positions on issues as though that is the only measure of a candidate.

Wow! You should get the "Logical Posting Award of the Month"!!!

Seriously, thank you for allowing me to believe, however briefly, that FR is not filled with single-issue suicidal hard-liners.

Wow, I actually find myself agreeing with Rush quite a bit on this. I believe that several of the GOP candidates, were they to get the nomination, could very well signal the end of the GOP (or at least the GOP as a party of conservatives) - it would be sending a message to conservatives that they are no longer wanted in the party.

Rush should enlist in helping this stealth campaign:

Re-draft Duncan Hunter into the Presidential Race

Well, as you say, the current crop of Republican candidates represents the Republican voter.

As those candidates, by and large, don’t represent my conservative values, I must not be a Republican.

So, why again, should I vote Republican?

This thought/belief has been said in several different threads. There was one where it was debated about whether or not conservatives are in fact RINOs, since the mainstream GOP candidates are not conservatives.

The fact is, if you are like me, you are probably the same conservative you've been for decades, and you've stayed rooted in the same beliefs while the GOP has moved to the left of you.

It's sad in a way (and I'm sure when Shrillary is in the WH, we'll get blamed for it), but I'm not seeing the GOP returning to their conservative roots anytime soon.

“And so Rush, when it might have really helped, why didn’t you give Duncan Hunter some much needed name exposure before your vast audience?”

Please.

Why didn’t Hunter run for Governor and win before he ran for President?

Heck the bar is so low at this point that he could have run for Senator, held that position and run for President.

Rush doesn’t owe the party, or any single candidate, anything.

Perhaps there needs to be a new party called the Conservative Party with an ironclad platform of conservative principles - in writing, a sort of party constitution if you will. Maybe if the Republican Party is dying out for abandoning conservative principles, a new party that truly is conservative (without abandoning the concept of morals and right and wrong as does the Libertarian Party - which most of us real conservatives can’t go for.)

“Rush doesn’t owe the party, or any single candidate, anything.”

Well of course, this is most definitely NOT about anyone “owing” anything. I would hope like most true conservatives, that Rush considers the treatment of issues from the perspective of how the country is benefitted, rather than considering to whom he owes what.

Rush is the one who, to his great credit, speaks about the need for ideological consistency and constantly repeats his mantra about the need for Republicans to run as a TRUE, full conservatives. So why then not support, or at least discuss as a viable candidate, the one CLEARLY ideologically pure conservative?

OK, Hunter didn’t connect the conventional dots to ascend to the presidency. Big deal. We have had CICs with vastly less governmental experience than Mr. Hunter.

No. He will face a relentlessly left Congress. I might change my own mind about voting for him if I thought he would leave SS seats vacant rather than appoint Justices that a left Democrat Senate will accept. He won’t do that. A democrat would, if faced with an analogous situation. Republicans are more concerned with “conserving” the forms, even though there is NO Constitutional requirement for a particular number of Justices. There could be 2 or there could be 100.

"President Hillary Clinton"

Get used to the sound of it. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm beginning to think she could actually win despite her 52% negative rating. The sheeple are so incredibly stupid that it's going to take 4 years under the boot of the Hildebeast to wake them up to the leftist reality that's been creeping up on them for decades, and to lead to either the reform or final obliteration of the Republican party - what's left of it, that is.

I agree with your summation of the situation.......but it’s the GOP you should be talking too as “we” already know what will happen. I have given these folks a heads up for close too a year now. To continue to compromise and vote for the lesser of two evils is ageless .......I am not.
