Fredheads, It's Time to Support Mitt
The Jawa Report ^ | January 22, 2008 05:18 PM | Dr. Rusty Shackleford

Posted on 01/22/2008 3:22:24 PM PST by Checkers

Dear fellow Fredheads,

It's time to support Mitt Romney. Can Mitt win in a general election? I don't know. Certainly he has always had a better chance than Fred. And if the opposition is Hillary Clinton, then maybe.

McCain can beat Hillary. But McCain is, well, McCain.

To be honest, I'm not as down on McCain as most of my fellow Jawas and you, the readers. But that's just because I've been a one-issue guy since right around, oh, let me see, I think the date was 9/11/2001.

But still, McCain doesn't get that the border is tied in with our national security.

Mitt does. And he seems to get the war on political Islam.

Sure, Rudy also seems to get both, but it's probably too little too late for him.

I'm hearing some oddball theory that a lot of Fredheads are natural Huckabee supporters. That's insane. Like, certifiably insane.

It's built on the presumption that the evangelical supporters of Thompson are in the same boat as the evangelical supporters of Huckabee. I got news for Tom Edsell: they aint the same animal. Sure, they may have the same funny accent, and so I'm guessing that to an outsider like Edsell the presumption is that they must be the same species. But they're not.

I really don’t think Fred is interested in a VP slot. I’d be happy to see Fred as Romney’s VP if he was interested, but I don’t think that kind of decision would be made this early in the process.

I shudder to see a photo of Romney in the Oval Office signing such a bill. Ugh!

But Fred is gone. So it's time for the runner-up. For those who no longer have a candidate, Romney is the conservative choice.

Except for the conservative part, of course. And the choice part, too.

It remains to be seen if there is still a Gulf between what he says and what he does.

I think that should trouble the serious enough to keep it close to the vest.

And I too have been told he is “Conservative” by not only people I trust but people who know the man.

Sorry but I am not “sold”. I pray he gets at least 4 years to prove otherwise.

You are entitled to your opinion. I have classmates living in Mass, and I’m up to speed on Romney, and my opinion differs from your own.

I’d rather vote for a man who says he agrees with me, but who might be lying, then a man who says he disagrees with me. In the first case I simply have to pray he’s telling the truth. In the second case I have to pray he’s either lying or incapable of action — neither of which is a very good thing for a President.

I’d much rather ask God to keep a man faithful to his promise, than ask God to make a man break his vows.

Mitt does not support DC mandates for Heath Insurance.

Oh contrare, he was on Hannity today, and said that is exactly what he would do to "fix health care". He DOES want to put his Romney care nation wide!

I’ll vote for Romney and still continue to preach against Mormon heresy.

I am disappointed about Fred too, but no matter who the republican nominee is they will get my full support. Its either that or Hillary, and I can not imagine any true republican wantign that. So grow up folks.

Well we can continue our slide into socialist oblivion (a liberal goal) with our choices of RINOs, or we can just get it over with.

Kinda like; do you slowly get into that ice cold lake, or just jump right it.

Jumping right in usually makes you want to jump right out.

Of course there's also the ever true frog in a pot of water analogy. Take you pick. Personally speaking: What our GOP leadership needs, as does a lot of the so called conservative electorate is (the party as a whole): A GREAT BIG SMACK UPSIDE THE HEAD WITH A 2 X 4 !!

We had two good conservative candidates and the GOP didn't even give them the time of day.

Actually, it’s time to admit that those who control the media and deceive and indoctrinate the ignorant masses are who will select the next president.

“He’s for enforcing people to buy health insurance.

Bad position.”

Why?

I can't believe someone honestly asks that question on a formum called FREE Republic. I guess liberty and freedom are long-forgotten principles.

“Romney wants to extend this to the whole country. He says it’s not a mandate at the end, but earlier in the article it is stated that it is mandatory.
http://www.usatoday.com/money/industries/health/2005-07-04-health-insurance-usat_x.htm";

I read the USAtoday article for which you provided a link.

No where, I repeat, no where does the article say Romney is proposing the mandate on a Federal level.

THANKS FOR WASTING MY TIME.

Mitt has more private sector business experience than anyone else running - someone who’s built a business, grappled with regulations and paid taxes. I’d rather be governed by someone who’s sat on my side of the table than someone who’s been a lifelong bureaucrat politician.

I think you said it all there. That is why people are weary of Mitt. People just do not trust Mormons.

Leave his religion out of it, that's not what this country is supposed to be about. Besides, there's plenty of meat and potatoes issues regarding Mitt that you can sink your teeth into. He's a RINO and his own words and deeds prove it.

Then my wife got pregnant and I saw the first ultrasound. And the second time another ultrasound. And the third time another ultrasound. The the fourth time another ultrasound. And now I'm pro-life. More consistent with my "thou shalt not murder" position.

I had what I thought was a well thought out position. I was presented with a new set of facts, ones that I had purposefully avoided thinking about for at least a decade, and then I changed my position. Did a 180, really. A regular flip-flopper I am.

What new set of facts were you presented with, Checkers?
