Dear fellow Fredheads,
It's time to support Mitt Romney. Can Mitt win in a general election? I don't know. Certainly he has always had a better chance than Fred. And if the opposition is Hillary Clinton, then maybe.
McCain can beat Hillary. But McCain is, well, McCain.
To be honest, I'm not as down on McCain as most of my fellow Jawas and you, the readers. But that's just because I've been a one-issue guy since right around, oh, let me see, I think the date was 9/11/2001.
But still, McCain doesn't get that the border is tied in with our national security.
Mitt does. And he seems to get the war on political Islam.
Sure, Rudy also seems to get both, but it's probably too little too late for him.
I'm hearing some oddball theory that a lot of Fredheads are natural Huckabee supporters. That's insane. Like, certifiably insane.
It's built on the presumption that the evangelical supporters of Thompson are in the same boat as the evangelical supporters of Huckabee. I got news for Tom Edsell: they aint the same animal. Sure, they may have the same funny accent, and so I'm guessing that to an outsider like Edsell the presumption is that they must be the same species. But they're not.

Not a chance.
I'll at least consider pulling the lever for Mitt. Can't say that about crazy mclame.
I can’t speack for Checkers, he can speak for himself.
My posting history shows I have been a strong opponent to claims about Mitt Romney that I believed were inaccurate, unfair, or misleading.
At times I have made comparisons with Fred Thompson in response to arguments about strict and long-term adherence to conservative principles. in those comparisons, I always noted that I did not fault Thompson for his former positions. I have also made it clear that Thompson was always a choice for me, and was only relegated to 2nd choice because I didn’t believe he was going to survive.
I also from time to time pointed out what I believed to be the problems that were causing Fred not to catch on with the voters. I did so not to attack him, but to explain his position with voters.
I always felt that his dismissal of church membership was a problem for evangelicals, as was his dismissal of Dobson, and his lack of support for HLA and the Marriage amendment.
I always had a 2-candidate strategy (Hunter was never close to being viable enough to think about as part of a strategy). I worked to get Fred Thompson in the race because I saw flaws in Romney’s ability to get the nomination, and because Fred was obviously acceptable to the conservative community.
I donated to Fred (I only recently donated to Romney). When it came time, I collected signatures to get Fred Thompson on the ballot in Virginia. I did not make an endorsement on my own blog. I declared my 1st choice here because some people suggested it was deceptive not to, but I did NOT urge Fred Thompson supporters to switch candidates.
I only do so now because Fred is gone. If you check, I never said that Fred should quit the race either.
I long ago decided that Mitt Romney was a good conservative choice for President. I also thought Fred Thompson would be a good conservative choice for President. I supported both. I defended Romney because Fred didn’t need to be defended here, while Romney did.
I always figured that if Thompson caught on, it would be at the expense of Romney. But Thompson did not catch on, and Romney has the organization, money, experience, and the strategy to win the nomination, and to win the election.
Nothing I did prevented a single person from voting for Fred, except if my defense of Romney made some people decide NOT to switch to Fred. Even when talking to people, if they said they didn’t like Romney, I always told them they should vote for Fred. I even steered Huckabee people in my church to Fred (a hard sell, unfortunately, due to the aforementioned items).
So sorry, Fred is out because of how Fred decided to run his campaign. I pretty much always feel it is the candidate’s job to convince people to vote for him. If I took personal responsibility for every candidate who failed to do his job with the voters, I’d be a depressed person indeed.
So you and Hunter are both bitter. Nice.
I didn’t know that, thanks

Switch2Mitt
Since you mentioned terrorists, Romney is one of our candidates who calls them what they are: Confronting Radical Jihad-MittRomney.com
Jihadism violent, radical, fundamental Islam is this centurys nightmare. It follows the same dark path as last centurys nightmares: fascism and Soviet communism. Many still fail to comprehend the extent of the threat posed by radical Islam, specifically by those extremists who promote violent Jihad against the United States and the universal values Americans espouse. Yet, the consequences of ignoring this threat such as a radicalized Islamic actor possessing nuclear weapons are simply unacceptable.
Radical Islam has one goal: to replace all modern Islamic states with a worldwide caliphate while destroying the United States and converting all nonbelievers, forcibly if necessary, to a fundamentalist form of Islam.Merely closing our eyes and hoping that Jihadism will go away is not an acceptable solution. U.S. military action alone cannot change the hearts and minds of hundreds of millions of Muslims. In the end, only Muslims themselves can defeat the violent radicals. But we must work with them. The consequences of ignoring this threat such as a radicalized Islamic actor possessing nuclear weapons are simply unacceptable.
GOVERNOR ROMNEY: "I think many of us still fail to comprehend the extent of the threat posed by radical Islam, by Jihad. Understandably, we focus on Afghanistan and Iraq. Our men and women are dying there. We think in terms of countries, because we faced countries in last century's conflicts. But the Jihad is much broader than any one nation or nations. Jihad encompasses far more than the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. For radical Islam, there is an over-arching conflict and goal - replacing all modern Islamic states with a caliphate, destroying America, and conquering the world." (Governor Mitt Romney, Remarks At The George Herbert Walker Bush Presidential Library, 4/10/07)
Romney has been speaking with the right terminology and the right focus throughout this campaign.
Everyone: Think about Mitt, his record, his character, and his positions.....and then wave a magic wand to make Mitt——POOF—not a Mormon!!! How would you feel about him then?
Fred was my first choice, but Fred isn’t running for president anymore. Mitt is my next choice and I hope he chooses Fred as his VP.
Yep.
Btw, I didn’t screw up Fred’s campaign.
But to be nice, here: The Mitt Romney Deception
And here: How Gov. Mitt Romney started same-sex marriage in Massachusetts - despite what he says now!
To be fair, that was not the opinion of the author, it was his interpretation of the opinion of someone he was addressing his argument to, the people associated with his blog.
I have no idea if the author agreed with that assessment or not. I know I don’t.
Huh? The Fredheads are giving you the looney sign. The potheads are wondering where they can get some of the drugs you're on.
Will Fred supporters support Fred's choice?
The quote is not the author’s opinion, he is discussing the opinion of someone who was writing about why Thompson supporters would go to Huckabee, probably a Huckabee person.
Best Post of Thread Award !
That was Fred’s position as well on abortion — rape, incest, life of the mother, allow states to decide.
That was in 2005, and Romney now supports the Human Life Amendment, which would not actually take the decision from the states, but would limit their options to a great extent.
Huckabee said he was for changing the constitution, but then he said he was not, or that the HLA would never pass anyway so people shouldn’t worry about his statement about re-writing the constitution so it matches the Bible.
I like almost everything Mitt says....
This year...
But....
I HATE EVERYTHING HE’s EVER ACTUALLY DONE !!
