I think some of the anger and ugly comments we are seeing are a result of Hollywood’s relentless campaign against what is good, wholesome and right about America. We are under almost continual assault when it comes to our conservative values. Then, when one of the proponents kills himself, whether accidentally or on purpose, we are supposed to be very sad.
It rankles some people.
My son owns “The Patriot” DVD, and when he heard Heath was in “Brokeback,” he was scandalized. He thought of Heath as a handsome, vigorous, patriotic young man because of “Patriot.” To have him publicly state, by his behavior, that a gay cowboy is just as legit as a revolutionary war hero, was an irresponsible thing to do. Sure, it was his right, but I don’t respect him for that.
Today two of the kids read he died - from what? they asked. Drug overdose, I replied. Wowww, they were shocked, shook their heads. . .another irresponsible act, whether done accidentally or on purpose. The older set standards for the younger. We all have people in our wake. He was a successful movie star. If he didn’t want to be a large scale role model, he should have gone into a different procession.
All that said, I am sorry he is dead. There is a lot to live for, and I am sure he is wishing for a “do over” at this point.
Your kids need to learn to look to Jesus, not human beings, for guidance. They’ll be let down every time.
