I see a shift here on FR to fall to Romney as a last line of defense.
My concern is that, in the general election, the public will sense the same unappealing “slickness” about Romney that caused most conservatives to instinctively recoil from him.
If conservatives move to support Romney because he is “safer” that McCain or Rudy, I think we will be walking into a massive defeat.
If it is McCain or Huckabee, we will still be walking into a massive defeat.
Romney and family make the Clintons look like cheap sleazy fools.
Romney sure ain’t perfect, but he beats the alternatives. This includes the Huckster.
None of the remaining crop are excellent choices, but I think I can trust Romney to make the right choices on judges, national defense and fiscal policy.
I think he took some less than conservative stances in Mass but that was not dissimilar to some of the things Ronald Reagan had to do while governor of California. Leadership sometimes involves compromise.
He’s explained his change on abortion and he ran a great Olympics. So I’ve gone from Fred to Mitt. Rudy would be my third. The others—forget it, but if you were holding a gun to my kids’ heads, I’d pick Mc Cain over Huck.

Worth repeating.
