Boston, MA Today, Governor Mitt Romney issued the following statement on former Senator Fred Thompson withdrawing his candidacy for President of the United States:
“Throughout this campaign, Fred Thompson brought a laudable focus to the challenges confronting our country and the solutions necessary to meet them. He stood for strong conservative ideas and believed strongly in the need to keep our conservative coalition together. Ann and I would like to extend our best wishes to Fred, Jeri and their family and congratulate them on their efforts during this campaign.”

One could tell in debates that Mitt had a lot of respect for Fred. Nice statement release.

I wonder if Huck will let Ed Rollins write his statement?
Anyway, Mitt you have my vote out of default. Do the best you can.

See! Romney took my advice and did the classy thing. He just polarized Fred supporters against Huckabee, who used Thompson's exit as another opportunity to bash Fred.
Romney did the smart thing with this statement.

Mitt Romney reminds me of my grandfather -- very elegant and always classy in what he says about other people.
Romney seems above holding grudges just for the sake of holding grudges.
You can tell from this statement he really does respect and like Fred Thompson.

Nice statement.....Guess it’s Romney for me now. McCain/huckster on the ticket will make me stay home.

With this statement, by default (AbGHMP) and by a leap of faith that he’ll act as conservatively as he is now running, Mitt has my vote.
To: Sybeck1
If Rollins writes it, I think I know what it will say:
“Well, you SOB, we kicked you to the curb, now we’re going to kick you under the bus. Loser!”
Afterwhich the inimitable Mr. Rollins will order another found of drinks — for himself.

Who will?
To: VegasBaby
Why is this statement news? It is a nice canned statement.
Slick Mitt is an anti-gun, pro-queer agenda, forced nanny state health care tyranny, forced subsides for abortions, no guts to veto liberal tyranny, NE liberal, he will never get my vote.
Since there 'rumor' is Mitt has some of his folks reading these threads...

Mitt couldn’t hold FRed’s coat. To issue a “fellow conservative hail and true” statement so quickly Mitt would either have to be a real conservative or a sheep in wolves clothing. Or a Judas goat, leading the GOP to a loss.
What a sad day for America.

Romney is the only one left that I have not taken a personal dislike to. I don’t agree with much of his stands over the years, but I don’t dislike him. The rest of them I can’t stand, particularly McCain. His supporters, on the other hand, I have had a hard time liking.
Anyway, at this point, I will hold my nose and vote for him.
