Good news for Huckabee TRIBUNE-REVIEW Salena Zito Posted January 22, 2008 3 :00 PM
Democratic strategist John Lapp said, "On first blush, it would seem that (Mike) Huckabee is the main beneficiary of Fred Thompson's withdrawal. Huckabee, Thompson and, to a lesser degree, Mitt Romney were splintering the hard core, evangelical, social conservative vote. With Thompson's withdrawal, Huckabee has the chance to consolidate the far right. However, if Thompson endorses John McCain, that would be a nice conservative credential to have, considering McCain has been struggling with the mainline conservative Republican base."

Wrongly so...
McCain flipped on Roe v. Wade.
In NH in 1999 McCain told reporters that "in the short term, or even the long term, I would not support repeal of Roe v. Wade." He explained that overturning Roe would force "women in America to [undergo] illegal and dangerous operations." In 2006, campaigning for the GOP nomination as a conservative, McCain said the opposite.
STEPHANOPOULOS: Let me ask one question about abortion. Then I want to turn to Iraq. You're for a constitutional amendment banning abortion, with some exceptions for life and rape and incest.
MCCAIN: Rape, incest and the life of the mother. Yes.
STEPHANOPOULOS: So is President Bush, yet that hasn't advanced in the six years he's been in office. What are you going to do to advance a constitutional amendment that President Bush hasn't done?
MCCAIN: I don't think a constitutional amendment is probably going to take place, but I do believe that it's very likely or possible that the Supreme Court should could overturn Roe v. Wade...."
McCain flipped on stem cells.
Initially supporting the President's restriction as to federal funding, McCain then asked for an expansion to include wider research saying, "I believe that we need to fund this. This is a tough issue for those of us in the pro-life community. I would remind you that these stem cells are either going to be discarded or perpetually frozen. We need to do what we can to relieve human suffering. It's a tough issue. I support federal funding." Source: 2007 GOP primary debate, at Reagan library, hosted by MSNBC May 3, 2007
McCain signed a letter from 58 Senators to the President
" Dear Mr. President:
We write to urge you to expand the current federal policy concerning embryonic stem cell research.
“just heard on the radio that Huckabee might be pulling out of Florida”
Geez. If huck and Rudy flop in FL. and there’s a split on Super Tuesday. Could it be possible that a new conservative candidate enters the race?
Anyone got ideas on who it could be?
I think it’s a likely possibility unless Romney runs the table on Feb 5
This Fredhead is going for Romney!
only 43% of the public consideres FNC trustworthy and they were the HIGH mark one.
This leaves 67% who do not trust FNC.
(CNN and MSNBC were far worse)
“On first blush, it would seem that (Mike) Huckabee is the main beneficiary of Fred Thompson’s withdrawal.”
First blush = wishful thinking.
Ah, no. Not the Huckster.
Whoever wrote this and whoever thinks along the same lines has not been listening to the FredHeads. We care about issues - and the Huckster doesn’t come CLOSE on substance.
If I support anyone in the future it will be Mitt Romney as the next best candidate.
At least Romney has not in my knowledge stabbed his fellow party member in the back on several occasions.
“but there is a mormon factor that bothers many people”
Yeah, but maybe if people pointed out that a Mormon invented TV (Farnsworth) some of the anti-Mormons would throw their TVs out the window — although such people are quite rare I suppose.
Just wondering...who are those crazy people who do those “GodhatesAmerica” and “GodhatesSweden” websites backing?
You can’t get on the ballot quickly enough let alone recruit delegates...the only way I can see someone other than the announced candidates win is if the convention goes to a 2nd ballot (or more)...
I totally ditched FNC last week. CNBC for me.
I’m surprised with that — not suggesting you are wrong, just surprised.
Check your math LOL with you.
I am switching from Fred to Mike. Sorry, I voted early today.
Well said!
From the sentiment I’ve seen among Fredheads, I would say 30% going to Romney, 10% to McCain, and the other 60% not sure or not voting in the primary. About 30% on FR and other sites are already saying that they undervote in November or write in Fred. Others are considering it.
....and huckabee is out of money. just scrolled on my streamer. can’t pay his peeps.
It's a Democrat operative who said that. Huck is their dream candidate.
I agree it makes no sense. It seems to me Romney benefits most because it seems to me he and Fred have been splitting the same voters.
“Whoever wrote this and whoever thinks along the same lines has not been listening to the FredHeads. We care about issues - and the Huckster doesnt come CLOSE on substance.”
The writer is probably a lib who thinks all Republicans from the south stick together and that just because Huck plays the “GeeTar” all Fred’s supporters will be naturally drawn to Huck. Pure nonsense.
Pulling out or dropping out???
I know he has very little cash, surly he cant keep it up much longer.
