McLean, VA - Senator Fred Thompson today issued the following statement about his campaign for President:
"Today I have withdrawn my candidacy for President of the United States. I hope that my country and my party have benefited from our having made this effort. Jeri and I will always be grateful for the encouragement and friendship of so many wonderful people."
Wow, what profundity. How could you see into his heart? Maybe you would have done a better job, but I don't see you serving anything but puerile spouts.
Fred Thompson was asked to join the fray, in what is commonly referred to as a "draft movement". Millions of dollars were went to his campaign, by folk like me, looking for a good man to run our country. Maybe you can find us a good replacement, for there are none on the horizon, or running in this race, that exhibit better character!
Good luck. Pray for Fred and his family. Thank him for trying, don't pelt him with ignorance! I think he may have been sunk by the MSM and the Hillary and Billary folk. They need a McRomney type opponent.
I am writing to support him, sending another check, and will write his name in for the WV primary...
Thanks for letting me rant...
Here are your choices. Either vote for the eventual nominee, or stay home and vote for Billary or Hussein Obama. It doesn't take an Einstein to know what to do here.
I hope the rumors about a McCain - Crist deal here in Florida are not true
.
This is disappointing but then so was Fred’s campaign (I use the term loosely).
I don’t think a talking-head candidacy is the best thing but it’s the way the game is played and his communications setup always seemed an afterthought.
Dag nab it! The MSM sank his effort. Whatta loss! Now who? Surely not McLame or the Huck! Both stink of the infection called RATism.
If he had jumped in in April or May, he would be leading now.
Well, they won’t be laughing for very long.
Well said.
Before that they did in George Allen. I think the Washington ComPost did 100 articles badgering him over the silly “macaca” business, turning it into a racist slur on no basis whatsoever. (Of course, if Allen was unable to beat Webb, he would have been a bad bet to beat Hillary in 2008.)
the system is deliberately broken
.
Thanks for the pings, Politicalmom. You worked very hard.
6 one way half a dozen the other.
While I wasn’t the biggest fan of how he ran his campaign, I believed that he was the best candidate in terms of substance, and his withdraw is a serious blow. I hope that Fred will now have the peace of mind to be able to take care of his family, and that he will remain a voice for conservatism in the years to come.
So, basically, we bleed to death by a hundred paper cuts instead of a thousand.
That’s no choice at all, and I won’t in good conscience vote for another liberal in conservative clothing.
How about while you're waiting for the awakening you vote for whomever the nominee is so we will have SOMETHING left AFTER the hoped for awakening?
Much thanks from the nBillary/Obama camps.
It’s disappointing you had to end the campaign, but you gave it a shot Fred. Best of luck to you and your family, and I hope your mother recovers from her illness.
Well, I had already voted for Fred by mail-in ballot out here in la-la land, shortly after Duncan dropped out, so I guess I’ll just have to sit out the next dance for now.
As much as I hate to say it the old Reagan conservative coalition is on life support. At my age I will probably never see a strong conservative in the White House again. We certainly will not see a conservative House and Senate for a while. This is nothing new of course, the downfall of the RNC started long ago, perhaps starting with the last time we heard the words “read my lips.”
Thanks for all the hard work, and the pings!
As for me, I retire from the field for the duration of the primaries — there is no one left worthy of any of my support, as I have roughly equal disdain for the remaining candidates.
Come November, I may very well hold my nose for whomever emerges, but I’m not even going to think about it until then.
Thanks for all your work and pings. I will miss you guys.
I doubt if I will be partaking in this election. I have to rethink it all.
Thanks again.
>> Buckley endorsed Romney as did Tancredo.
Rush seemed split between Thompson and Romney. Buckley’s sharp.
It looks like Romney’s the guy.
