Nader to decide soon on possible presidential run
Mon Jan 21, 11:58 AM ET
MONTREAL (Reuters) - Consumer advocate Ralph Nader said on Monday he will decide soon on whether to make a another bid for the White House in 2008, eight years after playing a key role as a third party presidential candidate.
"I'll decide in about a month," he said in an interview broadcast on CBC Radio's Daybreak show in Montreal.
"What I'm deciding on right now is whether we can get enough volunteers, enough financial resources to overcome the huge ballot access obstacles, which you don't experience here in Canada, but which are the worst in the Western world in the United States," said Nader, who will turn 74 on February 27.
Nader, who made his name as a consumer crusader during decades of battling corporations on matters from car to food safety, ran for president as an independent in 2004 and as the Green Party candidate in 2000.
Critics say he siphoned away enough votes from then Democratic Vice President Al Gore in the 2000 campaign -- especially in Florida -- to help Republican George W. Bush to win the White House.
No 2010 looks great. 08 will be Hill’s but she’ll screw up like Carter and bring a 50 year reign. She’s going to make GW look so good it even bothers me.
Nader’s last big victory was getting Chevrolet to drop the Corvair. He’s riding a wave. Big Mo.
I think if Ralph Nader runs, he could definitely win in the Fall. We could be looking at a Ralph Nader Presidency. He should seriously consider running, because I like his chances! (wink wink)
Once he gets his "face time" on TV, he'll crawl back down his burrow like a groundhog.
By the way, Groundhog Day is not widely recognized here in the South.
To us "groundhog" means "sausage".
That's the most idiotic sentence I've read in a long time...I don't care how Hillary stays out of the White House..I'm very sad you don't.
C’mon in, Ralph, go for Stassen’s record.
He's got a long way to go until he catches up with Pat Paulsen and Alfred E. Newman.
“Alfred E. Newman” now that’s some one that can heal any party.
I'm just askin'.....
/h
Are you serious?
I'm not worried. Who, me?
Go Nader! Go Bloomberg! Go Gore!
Harold Stassen Ping.
(That is an inside joke no one under 50 will get.)
Nader will not be a factor. Ralph Nader would only attract Democrat votes if the nominee isn't sufficiently liberal. That won't be a problem with either Hillary or Obama. That was Al Gore's problem in 2000; he was perceived by the leftist extremists as being too moderate.
However, Michael Bloomberg could be a big problem for both parties if he would run as VP and finance the campaign. If he could talk Al Gore into heading the ticket, they would probably win in a three-way race against Hillary/Obama or whoever gets the Republican nod.
Oh, no, we should vote for the holy roller bass player, or for the New York drag queen, or for the Other Guy of the Feingold and Somebody duo, get it?
Where can I donate????
