Why ARE we honoring MLK when we now know he was a plagiarist and was repeatedly unfaithful to his wife? Is MLK the first affirmative action figure in US history?
Plus MLK was a commie - and they only killed 100 million in the last century!
Perhaps that can be addressed on another forum. I'm just enjoying all this cult worship from Ron Paul Zombies who are using MLK as a campaign tool to show his lust for "Freedom", only to have these stories surface.
Martin Luther King led a successful peaceful protest against discrimination in America. He is an important figure in American History despite his character flaws.
While your observations of his imperfections are valid, it’s also indisputable that flawed individuals are capable of profound accomplishments. (King David is a case in point). Such was the case with MLK. The issue of his day (overt discrimination on the basis of race) cried out for resolution, and he rose admirably to the challenge as the focal point of that struggle. America is a better place for his being in the right place at the right time in our history.
If we dissect the private lives of our leaders and discarded them for their flaws, we would shortly have no leaders at all. Good people can do bad things and still be worthy of honor.

Because when someone has done something significant we tend to acknowledge that even if he did other not so great things.
Suppose George Washington turned out to have plagiarized something and cheated on his wife - would we stop acknowledging the good he did?
