HOUSTON An influential Houston minister who has long been a spiritual adviser to President George W. Bush says he will endorse Barack Obama's bid for the presidency.
The Rev. Kirbyjon Caldwell, senior pastor of Windsor Village United Methodist Church, said Saturday that he's backing the Illinois senator because of Obama's "character, confidence and courage."
Obama, a Democrat, is electable and "would do a wonderful job to bring people together to pursue a common vision we all have," said Caldwell, who said his support is personal and not connected to his role as pastor of the 14,000-member church.
However, Caldwell told his congregation that Obama may pay a visit to his church.
Caldwell, whose relationship with the president began when Bush was governor of Texas, introduced Bush at the 2000 Republican National Convention and gave the benediction at both of his inaugurations.
Caldwell said he called Bush to inform him of his decision to support Obama and that the president was "OK" with it, adding that the minister's presidential choice would not affect their relationship.
Socialism? Higher taxes? A government nanny state?
He looked into Putin’s soul and was convinced that Putin was deeply committed to his country and the best interests of his country, so I’d say the spiritual leadership was bargain basement quality.
What’s the bigger “cult”? The United Methodists or the Mormon Church? Sarcasm intended.
With the way Bush and the DOS has been treating Israel lately in favor of the Arab/muslim world, I'm not surprised he's backing obama. Just mho.
Not "leader" but "advisor".
I'm sure Pres. Bush has many, many spritual "advisors".
Ijit.
I know one steps upon a minefield in suggesting that a person of a particular race might favor a candidate of his race for primarily racial reasons.
But I think I have cred. It might be expected that I’d support (say) Huckabee, since I’m an outspoken evangelical, and he’s (perceived as being) the same.
But I don’t.
Good Grief!! With the “SPIRITUAL” advisor being an obvious DEMOCRAT and LAURA is PROBABLY a Democrat, it’s a miracle he has done ANYTHING even on TAXES!!
I’m no Christian but even I know that someone who’d endorse Obama probably shouldn’t be giving advice for peoples souls.
Matthew 16:26.
Bush’s spiritual adviser seems to be as wonderful as Obama’s. Check this out...
I don’t have much faith in MOST Methodist pastors. I know some good ones but the majority are sort of liberal.
Too many of our churches and denominations are going liberal in so many ways. They’ve abandoned the bible and it’s teachings for PC.
The name is awful familiar. I'm betting it's the pastor who spoke at the Inauguration.
;-)
John 16:3
NOt to me.
I was correct. This is the guy who gave the benediction during both of Bush’s Inaugurations.
