Golden Words from a Silver-Tongued Salesman
Family Security Matters ^ | 1/21/08 | Mark R. and Renee E. Taylor

Snake oil salesmen of the 19th Century used to comb the countryside, selling their remedies to unsuspecting consumers hoping for a cure, or at least a quick fix, for their ailments. Without much more than golden words out of the silver-tongued salesmen, they set alluring traps for their artful chicanery. Weeks later, those sold a bill of goods by the salesmen’s trickery were worse for the wear, the only benefit going to the deceptive salesmen - now long gone - with the victim’s hard earned gold in their pockets.

As long-standing residents of Arkansas, we are reminded of yesteryear’s snake oil salesmen when we listen to our former Governor, now presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, as he mesmerizes crowds across the country with golden words that defy his record in our fair state. With his pockets full of gold, we’re left with pockets full of dust.

For a minute there I thought this was a post about liberal preachers of the mid to late 1900s.

I knew exactly who and what it was about when I read the words “silver-tongued salesman”. I had no doubt at all! He is also associated with the words “snake-oil”, “push-pull poll”, “slimy” and many more!

The graphic should be the new logo for the Huckabee campaign....
Who do we have? Huckabee? McCain? I keep hearing rumors that Guilliani (who I never considered) and Thompson may drop out. It ain’t looking good...

It's not looking good indeed for conservatives. I am in mourning with the passing of Hunter's candidacy. We have lost an important conservative battle, but hopefully not the war for the 2009 Presidency.

I will continue to expose the Huckster until either he or I go down to defeat.

and in the role of Professor Harold Hill, Mike Huckleberry!

Perhaps someone with greater knowledge of "Music Man" could do parody lyrics for the tune "Trouble" in reference to huckleberry.

Excelsior!

My thought exactly when I hear "silver-tongued salesman". Can we get a HuckabeeTruthFile? Here's a start:

He is an inept neophyte on foreign policy (Condi elaborates here).

He is sarcastic and cynical (Christian?) whenever he "feels" attacked (Metamucil, broccoli anyone?)

He is a slick phony who as a politician seems to exploit his Christianity more than modelling it. Peggy Noonan describes this as “he's more James Carville than Jim Nabors”>

He would be portrayed by the MSM/Left as wanting to impose Christian Taliban on America (they're only holding back right now).

He says he’s Christian but he uses the dirty tricks throughout the campaign engineered by that lovely Ed Rollins fellow.

If he's our candidate, the MSM would so demoralize conservatives and Republicans with any and all of the following that turnout would disappear:

Huckabee: Anybody with an IQ above Broccoli, knows I am a conservative

A plea from (an) Arkansas Christian conservative

I don’t want to use the word conspiracy, but …

Which candidate has the mental disorder(41)

TEN THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT MIKE HUCKABEE:

1. Soft-on-crime Governor who went on a pardon/commutation spree

2. Pro-instate-tuition for illegal aliens and other giveaways – poor record on immigration

3. Fiscal liberal Tax-and-spender as Governor

4. Dissembled about his record when challenged (pardons, taxes, ethics)

5. Not a conservative, hurt conservatives in Arkansas

6. Ethics issues, taking public money for private use

7. Flipflopper, on immigration, Cuba and other issues

8. An incompetent Jimmy Carteresque boob on foreign policy

9. Is a nanny-stater supporter of smoking bans and enviro-wacko CO2 caps

10. Endorsed by the National Education Association!

And this:
