It’s not that low and middle income Americans refuse to do low-wage jobs, it’s that the upper middle and high income Americans (can anyone say Chappaqua?) talk about social justice

Beg to differ, but it's simple economics.

Use any one of the many inflation calculators out there on the Internet, and compare unskilled and semi-skilled pay from the 60's and 70's to that of today.

You'll quickly see that illegals are working for 40 to 60 percent less than the American work force of the 60's and 70's.

It's simple business math: employers are hiring from the cheapest labor pool (illegal peasant laborers), and Americans have no interest in competing for peasant wages.

If unskilled and semi-skilled labor rates tracked with the CPI for the last 30 years (as do other salaries), wages would be in the $25/hour range and Americans WOULD compete for those jobs.

(There's a whole argument to be made about natural barriers to entry, the protection of wage rates, and the purpose of unions in skilled and semi-skilled labor markets).

Yes. Absolutely true. My point is that the ultimate employers of illegals are those liberal snotbags who lecture us. One of my neighbors is a “Landscape Architect”. The workers show up every morning, pile into the trucks and head for the high-tone communities here on Long Island. The same high-tone communities that consistently vote Democrat.

If these same liberals were willing to pay a living wage to those who clean their toilets and mow their lawns there would be no question about who is willing to do the work.

BTW: The same “Landscape Architect” that hires the illegals also keeps all of her equipment on her residential property in violation of local zoning regulations.

The issue of illegal aliens and the issue of foreign trade are basically the same, and the primary responsibility for these two lies not with our so-called "elite leaders" -- but with ALL OF US (the American consumers).

Massive illegal immigration and an enormous trade deficit are the natural result of what happens when you have an entire nation in which every person is delusional enough to believe that he/she can be on the right side of any bell curve (no matter what that bell curve measures -- i.e., income, education level, standard of living, etc.). By definition, 50% of the population will be "below average" by any measure . . . so it is only natural that over time we must fill in the left side of those bell curves with peasant laborers -- either here (Mexican immigrants) or overseas (Chinese slave labor).
