DELAWARE COUNTY Republicans have endorsed a federal prosecutor and decorated veteran of the first Gulf War to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak in this year's 7th Congressional District race. W. Craig Williams, who resigned this week as an assistant U.S. attorney in Philadelphia to run for office, got the nod last night from GOP leaders to take on Sestak, a retired Navy admiral serving his first term in Congress.
He secured the party's endorsement without a vote. No other Republican candidates came forward at the Paxon Hollow Country Club.
"Hopefully," Williams said, "the election in November goes about that smoothly."
In his first campaign speech, Williams strongly criticized Sestak, without mentioning him by name, for his belief that a deadline be set for the withdrawal of American troops from Iraq.
"That's defeatist talk. I don't buy into it, and I don't think you do either," Williams told a small gathering of Republican leaders. "This war is turning around."
He also emphasized the need to develop alternative sources of fuel, to stop illegal immigration and to address the nation's home- mortgage crisis.
Williams, 43, of Concord, is unknown in Delaware County politics, but he brings a sterling resume to the race.
During the first Gulf War, he was an F/A-18 weapons sensors officer - think "Goose" in the movie "Top Gun" - with the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 121. He received two Air Medals for individual acts of valor and five Air Medals for 56 combat missions, according to his resume.

Williams sounds like a good candidate, and his military credentials are more impressive than those of Sestak.
The great thing about this candidate is that he can look at Sestak’s dismissal by the CNO and call a spade a spade. Sestak was relieved for “poor command climate” from a STAFF POSITION! That is Navy code for “Sestak is an A-hole.”
Woooo Hoo;
Billy what is your take on this?
Pennsylvania voters will treat him with the same respect that they currently give any other member of the Republican party.
They will treat him like trash.
An absolutely legendary one. Was a pretty smart guy, apparently, but did insane stuff like requiring staff to routinely stay overnight at the office, etc.
Were you there?
Oops, I just realized it said Delaware COUNTY.
Rasmussen Reports shows improvement for the generic ballot for Congress. 43% prefer Rodents. 38% prefer GOP. All 2007, Rasmussen had Rodents winning 46-36 for Congress. Perhaps, indies are getting tired of Pelosi and Reid already.
And the leading Republican candidate for the PA 8th district is a father who’s son was killed in Iraq going against the only Iraq war veteran in Congress (elected in 2006).
Agree! Sestak's office sure has been sending out lots of LAM memos since he got sworn in; he's an a-hole but has powerful connections with the socialists.
Ping to Trib for your list.

Thanks for the ping. This is good news.
Sestak already served his purpose, which was to shut up Curt Weldon. He was put up by Clintonistas, including sometime thief Sandy Berger, so that Weldon wouldn’t be around to ask embarrassing questions.
Are you saying that Sestak is no longer very important to the Clintons?
Weldon was taken out by George Soros organization CREW. Melissa Hart Dist 4 was taken out by Soros’ moveon.org. She’s trying to take back her seat. There is a vet running against Murtha. I hope all are ready for war because Soros doesn’t like losing.
Just met the candidate.
Clear headed. Thoughtful. Wise.
Head and shoulders above Sestak.
Does he have a website yet?
Excellent!
Thanks
