Conservative editorialists, radio hosts, and bloggers are unhappy. They don't like the Republican presidential field, and many of them have been heaping opprobrium on the various GOP candidates with astonishing vigor.
For example: John McCain--with a lifetime American Conservative Union rating of 82.3--is allegedly in no way a conservative. And, though the most favorably viewed of all the candidates right now, both among Republicans and the electorate as a whole, he would allegedly destroy the Republican party if nominated.
Or take Mike Huckabee. He was a well-regarded and successful governor of Arkansas, reelected twice, the second time with 40 percent of the black vote. He's come from an asterisk to second in the national GOP polls with no money and no establishment support. Yet he is supposedly a buffoon and political naïf. He's been staunchly pro-life and pro-gun and is consistently supported by the most conservative primary voters--but he is, we're told, no conservative either.

Ahh, yet another voice telling us to suck it up and vote for the mainstream media choices.
If we ever needed “None of the Above,” we need it now. The USA is scraping the bottom of the barrel for candidates this year.
It is Kristol and his cohorts that have given us no choice but these horribly flawed candidates. Writing apologetics for them do not make them any better.
What we have is an incoming democrat administration considering the front runners we have. It sucks but its a fact.
That statistic might be very deceptive in light of today's issues. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't John McCain's current ACU rating closer to 60%? That is definitely not conservative.
And should by chance he not be on the ballot on the 29th, I will write him in.
Okay Billy, Captain Queeg, who you've been pushing on us for more than eight years, finally won New Hampshire and South Carolina. Do more to convince me he's most suited among the field to be president, and then Flyover Country to convince people who've never seen a copy of Weekly Standard and convince them. Go for it. Good luck with that.
I am in disagreement. First of all, it is not bad to want a person who reflects Ronald Reagan. We conservatives know we are not voting a Ronald Reagan into office. What we want is someone who will keep America strong and free and mean it and the candidates that are out there just don’t fit the bill. They are not who they say they are; so don’t blame us by trying to educate us simply on your say.
You are correct! I might give Kristol's comment more than two seconds worth of consideration if his admonition were anything more than simply urging us to warmly embrace the mediocrity that now personifies the GOP leadership.
And, in terms of McCain, he's one of the authors of amnesty for illegal aliens... thus, he will NOT get my vote.
None of the Above = Stay Home
Hard to believe, isnât it? We just lost a real Conservative in Hunter, but the powers that be in the media are doing the selecting now. Itâs going to be president Hillary Clinton, whether we like it or not, because the corporations and media moguls demand it. Borders and other Conservative issues be dammed.
Keep feeding us this crap about McCain’s lifetime conservative rating. If the average temperature for your town is 75-degrees, do you mean to tell me that it is still warm when it is 20 degrees? No.
McCain was ONCE a conservative. Now he is not. Only the McCainiacs fail to grasp that point.
Funny how there’s no mention of Illegal immigration in this piece.
I agree,
I will never vote for an amnesty guy like McCain. Bill Kristol’s ideology is what is wrong with the Republican Party.
I cancelled my subscription to the Weekly Standard when He came out supporting Slick Willies bombing of Serbian Christians to get “brownie points” with the Muslims back in 1998-9
Interesting that the title paraphrases an (in)famous quote by Rumsfeld.
After Rumsfeld was canned the situation in Iraq improved dramatically.
Kristol is a RINO.
We get liberal(R)s in office, okay bad enough. Then we get a guy like Kristol who goes out and tells everyone that what 'our' guy is doing should be supported by the rank and file.
Kristol is the counterpoint to every donkey operative, and that's how conservatism has been delt a stab in the back.
Kristol short circuits the process. Donkeys should have a "real bonified died in the wool" conservative to rebut their arguements. Instead we get Mr. Abiguity (a real diehard go along to get along bucket of horse sweat).
It's no wonder he's the darling of the liberal driven media outlets every weekend. He's a nice enough guy, but then it's your nice enough guys who generally sell you out when push comes to shove, and Kristol has done that more times than I've gotten laid.
You can call McCain anything you like. Don't make it so. What matters is that he is 100% in favor of HELPING illegal Mexicans enter and stay in this country. He was instrumental in sabotaging Republican efforts to appoint judges that will UPHOLD the Constitution, not use it for toilet paper.
That's what matters. Not what you or any other talking head says.
