Speak Up! (Now is the time to sort things out.)[Mark Levin]

With all due respect, this is absurd on many levels. If John McCain is nominated and loses, it is because he doesn’t appeal to enough Americans, including the base that he has repeatedly betrayed (as Thomas Sowell puts it) over a long period of time. The suggestion that McCain and McCain alone is capable of fighting this war, given his experience, seems to be the core of the concern. Let me suggest that VDH and others who make this claim are wrong.

McCain never treated Bill Cohen, Clinton’s defense secretary, with the kind of personal animus he showed Donald Rumsfeld. McCain often confuses policy with personality affronts. He was social friends with Cohen so he didn’t admonish him about his hollowing out of the military. His attacks on Rumsfeld started before his disagreement over the surge. Their personalities clashed. And as before, McCain wanted to get even. The fact that he was right on the surge, which has now evolved into mythical proportions with the help of his campaign and supporters, goes high on the credit side of the ledger.

You ask, in essence, that we ignore McCain’s leadership in the amnesty debate and his course reversal of recent months as he seeks votes. What does this tell us about the man? The bill he co-authored with Ted Kennedy (and which was foolishly supported by the current president) would have caused enormous economic and cultural dislocations. (VDH doesn’t need lectures from me on the subject, since he’s written eloquently on it.) As the Heritage Foundation and many others pointed out at the time, the McCain-led effort would have resulted in tens of millions of new illegal aliens coming to the country with the likelihood of eventually receiving citizenship;

If it comes down to him and Obama, I'd probably even vote for Obama because at least he seems like an honest man

Atta boy, vote feeeeeeeelings.

You might want to do a little research before you throw in with Obama.

Take a look at the Electoral College map and tell me under what scenario McCain could win? He wouldn’t even get the non-citizen vote he’s counting on. Hillary has that locked up.

I seen the wonders of Illegal Immigration first hand. I will not compromise my principles, period.

re: If it comes down to him and Hillary, I stay home)))

That's too passive for me. I want a more active rebellion.

For months in 2006, the GOP would call me for donations. I'd tell them a few choice things, and they always had the same thing to say, "But, Hillary! You're afraid of Hillary, aren't you? You have to put up with anything the elites dish out, because you fear Hillary so much!"

It's time to call their bluff. I've had it with the GOP and their Hillary sock puppet.

I've watched Hillary--she's great at getting power. And then she does nothing with it, or screws up whatever she tries to do. She's not effective. A conservative opposition could be a real problem for her.

And McCain--like Hillary, he had to marry his way into political power. (The story of Homewrecking Cindy will be all over the wires the day after he gets the nom.) But he's been highly effective at promoting an anti-conservative agenda with the power he has had.

I really think it's time to call a bluff and show the elites that fear of Hillary isn't going to make us swallow garbage.

If it comes down to him and Hillary, I stay home.

This is precisely what the Clinton Campaign wants to happen.

You may as well go all the way and sign up to campaign for her. The end result is the same.

What got us 8 years of Clinton was two “moderate” Republican nominee’s. Why would the result be different now?

And your answer would be to hand Hillary a default victory and I'm sure she will take what she can get.

Golly, wouldn't that teach those moderate Republicans a lesson.

Even a moderate Republican is still a whole lot better than a Hillary/Marxist presidency, and that's pretty much guaranteed if she can keep us split. The likes of Carville are hoping to open, and maintain a split among conservatives.

Do we hand it to them on a silver platter....or put up, at least, a little resistance?

“Can you imagine a McCain compromise nominee?”

If the Beast or Obama is President, I can imagine a Far Left Ruth Bader Ginsburg-type nominee that’s quickly confirmed ... nay, make that THREE of them! McCain would at least be nominally amenable to Conservative advice/pressure.

McCain's behavior and agenda are driven by his delicate ego, brazen opportunism and revenge for perceived slights or offenses. NOT acceptable character or stability for a CIC. I personally don't think he'll be the candidate. That blessed "angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm," and the entire script of this political season has yet to be played out.

Dear Puppage,

Please feel free to let the centrists scratch your belly so you feel okay - like the lobster surrounded by the heating water.

I have researched Obama, and I know about his votes in the state legislature, and his statements and votes in Congress.

He's still more honest then Mr. Straight Talk. Apparently, the definition of Straight changes depending upon your location.

In fact, I believe that in the case of attack on the US, the Hildebeast would be more aggressive in defending our safety than McCain. He's too worried about global warming, terrorists rights, and tearing apart the constitution.

There's just no way I would ever vote for her for many other reasons.

My main frustration is that the only true patriotic conservative, Duncan Hunter, never had a chance. I like the social platform of Huckabee, but he's a disaster everwhere else and Giuliani, Romney - and to a point even Thompson are too much of a politician to trust with my family's future.

Put South Carolina first, follow it with Texas or Alabama, etc. and Hunter's got the possibility of getting out of the gates quicker and building some momentum. Instead, we go through four states before we have a real conservative base.

And as far as Obama winning, if he's good - great for all of us. If he's as liberal as the worst fears, then the right has four years to polish it's message and identify the next generation of conservative leaders.

The only big concern I have is the Supreme Court but:
- Ford gave us Stephens
- GHWB gave us Souter
- even Reagan gave us Kennedy and O'Connor.
- the Republicans can still filibuster the worst of the leftists, and maybe a battle like that will help them rediscover their spine.

I hear you, Guns. Loud and clear. God Help us if Republican primary voters forget McCain's repeated and belligerent betrayal of conservative ideals and choose him as their candidate.

I think that McCain's place at the top is a momentary thing. Once we get to the real Republican primaries, in which liberal "independents" cannot vote and screw around with our nominating process, he will fade away into obscurity (I hope I'm correct). And then he and Lindsey Graham can give each other blow-jobs (I can't believe I just wrote that) and call each other statesmen until the day they die.

Now I am going to go and wash my mouth out with soap and run my hands under scalding water as punishment for my unChristian commentary....

I’m calling it the great American B’ch In.

I’m sick of RINO’s carrying the water for the minority hard core leftists...and getting beatin up for it. (Amnesty, No Child Left Behind....). Time for this crap to end. They survive off a false dichonomy “the party of the people vs. the elitist GOP”.

Nope time for the squishy middle to experience the total lack of real moral equivilence.

I’m voting for Hillary, by the time she’s done the DNC and GOP Moderates will be toast...or we all will.
