Heritage Foundation Campaign: What Would Reagan Do?
The Heritage Foundation ^ | The Heritage Foundation

For those of you who don't listen to the Sean Hannity or Laura Ingraham shows, they are promoting a program that The Heritage Foundation has put together to remind us of what Reagan said, did and stood for. They have set up a page on their website with videos, audio clips and transcripts of speeches that Ronald Reagan gave during his political career. At a time when we are choosing our next nominee for the Presidency, it is a very good idea if we all step back and review the information Heritage is providing. Click here to go to their resource page.

TOPICS: Constitution/Conservatism; Philosophy; Politics/Elections
KEYWORDS: campaign; heritage; reagan; reaganism
Here is the text of the video they have playing on the first resource page:

We are a nation that has a government -- not the other way around. And this makes us special among the nations of the Earth. Our government has no power except that granted it by the people. It is time to check and reverse the growth of government, which shows signs of having grown beyond the consent of the governed.

It is my intention to curb the size and influence of the federal establishment and to demand recognition of the distinction between the powers granted to the federal government and those reserved to the states or to the people. All of us need to be reminded that the federal government did not create the states; the states created the federal government.

Now, so there will be no misunderstanding, it's not my intention to do away with government. It is rather to make it work -- work with us, not over us; to stand by our side, not ride on our back. Government can and must provide opportunity, not smother it; foster productivity, not stifle it.

I really think we need to move away from Reagan.

What we need to do is focus on what CORE REPUBLICAN ideology IS. Fix what others are doing wrong with it. Then you might have a LEADER emerge that can implement CORE RPEBLICACN ideology. It’s not about Reagan. It’s about CORE IDEOLOGY for the Republican party. This new core ideology for Republicans resembles Demoncrat light.

Who cares what Reagan would do. The question is what are we going to do?

The Republican party of Reagan was about a free people with strong God-given rights who actively, and with design and intent, gave a specific and limited amount of power to institutions that they created to provide self governance.

With the exception of Fred Thompson, none of the Republican candidates appear to understand that. None but FT are a standard bearer for the personal freedom that my 17th century ancestors fought so hard to establish and secure. It is now all about the Katrina mentality of what is the “government” going to do to come up with a bureaucratic program to solve our problems, fix our plight, make life more fair or force others to live by our religious rules.

If this is where the party is headed with its candidates, then I am looking elsewhere for my leadership. I want someone who protects my individual freedom and my rights from government and all the populists who want to take control of my life and property from me. If FT surrenders, I have no reason to stay.

“Who cares what Reagan would do. The question is what are we going to do?”

Back Fred as best we can for now.

He fails.

Back who is the least liberal RINO.

And then turn up the heat as best we can on whoever the nominee is to actally BE conservative.

I know of no other path, other then a form a third party.

But I think dragging the republican party back to it’s conservative core makes far more sense.

Let’s just hope it doesn’t take a President Hilda-Bama to do it.

I agree with you there.
