I still consider that lutefish is the worst, sorry I ever asked what it was. To confirm this I would have to Google ‘balut’, and I frankly don’t care to look.

Balut is an 18 day old incubated duck egg. The Philipinos eat them like crazy. Peel the shell, add salt and vinegar, and eat it all, even the feathers and the head. Type in balut in youtube and you can see videos of people trying to eat it.

Disgusting to look at and (so I hear) revolting to eat. But even more than that -- according to Wikipedia, not only is it disgusting, but it ruins your dishes and utensils!

When cooking and eating lutefisk, it is important to clean the lutefisk and its residue off of pans, plates, and utensils immediately. Lutefisk left overnight becomes nearly impossible to remove. Sterling silver should never be used in the cooking, serving or eating of lutefisk, which will permanently ruin silver. Stainless steel utensils are recommended instead.
Now if a "food" destroys not only your appetite and digestion, but also the inanimate objects surrounding it! .... well, that's why it's No. 1 on the list.
