In the United States all the talk of “racial profiling” is an attempt to stifle law enforcement.

Canada’s traditional system is strong provincial autonomy so McGuinty is supposed to hold the cards here.

In theory I guess he could bat it up to Ottawa at least, so Conservatives could get blamed for dealing with the violence.

The article is obviously slanted in favor of the developers. If this is taking place in Indian land (the Canadian equivalent of a reservation), and the developer paid off some local politician to get ownership, than I favor the Indians. If the ownership of the land is disputed, then it should be decided by an impartial judge.

This reminds me of a story told by Baroness Riedesel, who was in America and Canada during our revolutionary war.
According to the story, the Indians in Canada set great store by their dreams, and it seems there was this Scotchman running some sort of a trading post. An Indian came to him and said he dreamed that he was given tobacco and rum. The Scotchman said that if that was so, he should give him tobacco and rum, and did so. Soon many Indians repeatedly came to him with the same dream, and he gave them all tobacco and rum.
After some time the Scotchman visited the Indian camp and said,” My brothers, I have had a dream. I dreamed you gave me a large tract of land!” And he described the boundaries.
“What! “ said the Indians, “You dreamed that!” and withdrew to have a powwow.
After some time they came back and said, “ Our brother, we will give you the land! But don’t dream any more!”
