Today is a sad day for America, and a sad day for me personally. A fantastic man, a patriot, a HERO, has dropped out of the presidential race. The political machine won.
So what is the future of this website? Do we have a future?

I’ll just go down the list:
Hunter is now out, then it’s Fred, then Ron Paul, who will most likely go third party.
I will vote whomever the Republican is on the Presidential ballot (and will not for the Democrat (D) or the Republican (D).
Then, further down the ballot, I wil revert to the Republicans for other races as long as they are not RINOs.
You got that right. They were less than useless.
Indeed, those are the four turds who came back up into the bowl after we had flushed the toilet. So we certainly know the plumbing is broken.
Your choices now are:
a) Accept the fact that your country is lost.
b) Reconcile with forces more powerful than yours, give them the votes they need to prevail, and acquire influence.
c) Become revolutionaries.
Your call.

Here’s how it works; if you gain considerable support, i.e., come in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or even 4th, TV and newspapers will write about you.
When you can’t poll 1/10 of a nutjob like Ron Paul can, you’re not news, nor are you a viable candidate.
Take and bat and ball and go home. We adults will take over from here while you pout in your room and scream that you won’t vote at all.

Quite frankly, I'm appalled at the late behavior of many supposedly Conservatives posters on this board who unabashedly trashed and helped pull down an honest-to-goodness, dyed-in-the-wool Conservative candidate. Their attacks on Hunter brought great discredit to FR, and when the inevitable complaints and whining come down next year (regardless of whoever wins the general election) about how we never have any more Conservative leaders, I'll remember with a wry smile all the arguments recently made here about "electability" and having to accept the "lesser of evils."
To use a quaint analogy that I picked up last years during a business visit to an Indian reservation, the GOP (and FR to a certain extent) has become like a bucket of crabs, in which all the crabs fight and claw with one another and only work together to pull down those crabs smart enough to try and escape from the bucket.
At this point, it looks like my second choice, Fred Thompson is finished as well. So, when the rubber finally meets the road in November, I MIGHT be able to bring myself to vote for Romney, but under no circumstances will I vote for McCain or Giuliani. In fact, I'll vote for that nutcase Paul before I ever consider voting for those two charlatans.
I've said my piece, so now I'm going to let it go. But, I will continue to follow Hunter for the rest of his post-Congressional career, in the hope that he might become SecDef or even run again in 2012 should either Hillary or Obama win.
For many of the Fred-heads with whom we have battled over the past three months and were actually dancing on Hunter's grave last night, all I have to say is, you will soon reap what you sew, and ultimately inherit the wind.
I am over my grief now, which lasted, surprisingly, only for the better half of a day. But now, what is better, I am pissed!!

I agree with you on both counts. IMO, regardless of which of the remaining candidates becomes POTUS, the issue of illegal immigration will immediately be addressed and we will find ourselves, once again, fighting against a POTUS who favors shamnesty and fighting for the EFFECTIVE security of our borders. We MUST not allow ANY kind of amnesty for ANY illegal aliens. I do believe that an attempt will be made, by ANY winner, to dole out a ‘punishment’ or touch back in exchange for citizenship, again under the guise of comprehensive reform. Compassion and the economy will be the reasons given for this amnesty. I also believe that Hunter’s fence will not be built and effective security compromised by use of ‘technology’.
We will find ourselves continuing to battle for the sovereignty and security of our country.

I agree, and here’s what I would like to see happen on Free Republic. If inkling wants to do it first on his website, he might find that his movement attracts the kind of support that FR did a decade ago.
My suggestion, as posted before:
When all the smoke clears, if Hunter doesn’t get the nomination, I have one more suggestion for all of us remaining conservative freepers. It would make sense for us to have an idealogy score, a set of questions with rankings of how important the issue is and how strongly a freeper agrees/disagrees with it. We could all put these results on our home pages, so that when another freeper is debating with us (or us with them) we could just go to their home page, check their score on that issue & others, and realize “Ohhh, this is a Ron Paul supporter” or “ohh, this guy is a small l libertarian” or “ohh, this guy is a Big F FISCAL Conservative and a small l social liberal.”
It’s okay for FR to be inundated with RINOs or have a bunch of liberals posting here, as long as they’re up front about it.

During the California elections for Governor, many here were climbing out of the bucket and supporting McClintock. But some of those content in the bucket said a vote for McClintock was a vote for Bustamonte. Some stayed true to their conservative principles and voted for McClintock while others supported Schwartzneggar.
With S.B. 777 becoming law in California, some of those voting for Schwartzneggar now realize the mistake in voting for a RINO. Unfortunately there are still many here who are content in the bucket.
After watching the lesson some Californians (and some outside California) learned with Schwartzneggar, I'm more convinced that voting for a RINO is similar to voting for a Democrat. You get the same results, it just might take a little longer for those supporting a RINO to realize it.
A few years ago I joined the others already outside the bucket. I encourage others to join us.
Well said. We’ll end up with a rinocrat candidate, who’ll lose to the Democrat. I find it difficult to say Republican and conservative in the same sentence these days. And Bush was our warm-up act.
