FRED THOMPSON, IN OR OUT? (Mother in hospital)
PowerLine ^ | January 19, 2008

Posted on 01/19/2008 8:07:10 PM PST by restornu

Fred Thompson just spoke to his supporters in South Carolina, where he appears headed for a weak third or fourth place finish. Thompson thanked everyone and then spoke about America and conservatism's contribution to it. He did not talk about Florida or being in the race to stay.

Word is that Thompson will return to Tennessee to visit his mother in the hospital. While he's there, presumably, he'll consider his options. Frankly, and I say this with regret, it's difficult to see the case for him remaining in the race.

I really really hope you are right but I am very disheartened tonight with how Fred did. If he could not break through in SC he is not connecting with folks.

I really believe in him but he is going to have to connect with the sheeple immediately because he is not in a strong position right now considering how committed he has been to SC.

He won against big odds in Tennessee but the media there was more hospitable and the race was concentrated. I am not a happy camper right now with the GOP.

You're a Romney supporter, aren't you?

Why yes he is and a very obnoxious one at that!

“He wasted weeks of precious broadcast time focusing on Hillary instead of talking about the Republican candidates.”

You are absolutely right about this. Rush has been going on and on about Hillary for weeks on end. He should have been concentrating on the differences and similarities between Pub candidates and why it would be good or bad to vote for someone because of their political philosophy. A lost chance to differentiate amongst our candidates and to clarify their pros and cons.

Until tonight, I supported Thompson. But, after his half-hearted campaigning, tonight Thompson issued the straw that broke the camel’s back. He either lacks the ability and leadership to win a primary in a conservative state, or he lacks the desire. I think it could be the latter, but that does not matter.

Thompson is sucking the wind out of the conservative movement in the GOP and allowing the RINO McCain to take over the party. This must not stand. It is time for FReepers to get out of the quicksand that is the Thompson campaign. He is draining the life out of our efforts and opposition to his RINO liberal friend, John McCain.

Fred’s mother is recovering, so I don’t think she’s going to be a factor.

Wonderful news.

She must be an amazing woman. Fred always speaks of her with great affection.

McCain does not = Dole.

True they were both war heroes, however McCain has much more charisma.

We have to remember Hillary is not Bill. Hillary has proven that she is not a good campaigner, prone to mistakes and has little charisma.

Bill was attractive to independent voters, whereas Hillary is repellent.

I hope not. He is the only one that stands between us and the rest of them, now that DH quit. Yall just don’t let him hitch his wagon to his buddy , McCain.

“Which version of Mitt Romney are you talking about? “

Ok, I am not supporting Romney by any means. However, I think we all could agree at this point he has worked hard to prove he is what he says he is. If he changes his stances again he will prove that without a doubt he is a flip-flopper, a panderer, and a phony. All of that equals a loss in a general election.

I don’t expect Romney to flip/flop if he were elected until AFTER the election.

Frankly, I am sick of the GOP and where it is heading. Fred Thompson should have cleaned those bozo’s clocks tonight in S.C.

I fear for the Republic

I have been a very consistent and close observer of Fred's campaining and have come to a very different conclusion to yours.

I have found him to be exactly the type of leader that the US needs and ALL of the other candidates are FRAUDS in this respect.

Fred has had to deal with dirty campaign tricks and a MSM, including FAUXNEWS that have stacked the deck against him declaring his candidacy dead sometime in October if I remember correctly.

In spite of all the negativity that the MSM has used to try and show him unelectable, he still came in third and managed to knock the Huckster out of 1st.

And while you may be willing to throw your principles out the door, I will stick by mine and continue to support Fred whole-heartedly until and if Fred decides to drop out.

I don’t think Fred wants a VP spot. He could make a ton more money back in Hollywood and it would kill his ego.

My point exactly, do you really trust him to keep his word, given his extreme change of views?

Doesn't that cause you to stop and think?

For goodness sakes, this guy was in the tank for abortion, the gay agenda, and he was anti-2nd amendment!

Still, the upcoming SCOTUS interpretation of the 2nd Amendment is becoming more and more important.
2008 may be a pivot point in our history as the constitution is in clear and present danger.
The Dems have always wanted tyranny and it is only recently the RINO leadership(with McCain in the lead)of the GOP have become willing to give it to them.
There are currently tens of millions of pissed disenfranchised conservative patriots with guns. Will Justice Roberts push to disarm them in hopes of a peaceful solution to the under-reported and under-estimated unrest currently eating at America?
In short, what does the Declaration of Independence say about this scenario and what does the constitution allow as redress?
