FRED THOMPSON, IN OR OUT? (Mother in hospital)
PowerLine ^ | January 19, 2008

Posted on 01/19/2008 8:07:10 PM PST by restornu

Fred Thompson just spoke to his supporters in South Carolina, where he appears headed for a weak third or fourth place finish. Thompson thanked everyone and then spoke about America and conservatism's contribution to it. He did not talk about Florida or being in the race to stay.

Word is that Thompson will return to Tennessee to visit his mother in the hospital. While he's there, presumably, he'll consider his options. Frankly, and I say this with regret, it's difficult to see the case for him remaining in the race.

***ALERT***ALERT***ALERT!!!***

***REALITY FACING TIME!!!****

Thank God a few people on here are still sane and able to face an imperfect reality with good, common sense and cold, hard logic.

When I walk into the booth next November I will pull the lever for McCain with glee and much enthusiasm against The Beastess. I’ll die before I will do anything that helps her gain power.

All this gnashing of teeth and stamping of feet on here is really unseemly.

Whatever. People with your attitude will definitely give us a RINO as the nominee. And it’ll be Dole vs Clinton all over again.

According to the graph Jim put up, Huckabee isn’t the worst of the worse. On the list of who is the most conservative, I think he came in 3rd.

Where is that graph?

Do you have a link?

Fred Thompson is not going to be the GOP nominee for President. To continue support for him is quixotic and ridiculous. It renders FReeper conservatism irrelevant, which clears the way for McCain and may very well have been the point of the Thompson campaign from the beginning.

I know you would like to move support to your candidate Mitt, however, I doubt that is going to happen.

Last I checked, Mitt's negatives were at 50%.

Mitt cannot win the general election with negatives like that.

Wishful thinking on your part.

Also, Fred's campaign is not "toast" as you are wont to say.

Wait and see!

Not where it counts!

Pardon my negativity here but I do think we’re pretty close to being doomed. We may have to take back this country DESPITE the government because taking it back THROUGH the government and the electoral process just doesn’t seem to be working. Once upon a time I believed in a government “of the people, by the people and for the people.” I’m not so sure anymore...

It is a little too early to be throwing in the towel.

And way too early to start talking about revolutions.

Agree. Praying about what I might be able to do. Don’t get new semester’s part time income until 15 Feb!

Blessings,

So who do you like in the general election? Giant douche

Photobucket

Or Turd Sandwich?

Photobucket

America and freedom will lose either way, so I'm neutral. I think Giant Douche would be scarier to the islamofascists though. Your thoughts?

We have lots of conservatives, but no conservative leaders. We are back to being a mob.

That is how it was in the old days before Goldwater and Reagan.

We lived through it and prospered. We will again.

The speach will be a big feature on Rush Limbaugh’s next broadcast.

Probably so, but I don't want to hear any bitchin' and moanin' from Rush that a good, solid conservative didn't win SC. He wasted weeks of precious broadcast time focusing on Hillary instead of talking about the Republican candidates. There's plenty of time to take on Hillary. Right now there's a battle for the heart and soul of the Republican party and Rush has been AWOL through most of the battle.

Jim, that prospect scares me even more than it scares you.

I don’t mind Fred... but I’m just not all that confident of his chances in the primaries right now. The best shot we have at all is a brokered convention right now, which could happen. That, however, has its own problems.

Again, with due respect. I am NOT endorsing McCain, Rudy, Romney or Huckabee. Quite frankly, they scare me almost as much as Hillary. Not quite, but close.

Either way, we still have to fight for Congress in ‘08. As Yogi Berra once stated... “it ain’t over ‘till it’s over.” And I’m not going down without a fight.

I hope his mother recovers.

At the end of the day, that’s what’s important.

For once, a politian who says he wants to “spend more time with his family” who I actually believe.

As Rush has said, President Bush is not a true conservative. But we have done far better with him in the White House than with Gore, Kerry, or particularly McCain.

I’m looking at candidates on these important issues:

1. Judicial appointments like Alito & Roberts
2. Protecting the 2nd Amendment
3. Reversing the Clinton-Bush tide of illegal immigration

John McCain has stabbed conservatives in the back on all three of these issues. He must be stopped. Thompson, with his lethargic campaign, has served to do nothing but help McCain. We have been snookered.

Right now, the only one who we can hope will not betray conservatives on the important issues, though he is not a true conservative himself, is Mitt Romney.

Fred’s mother is recovering, so I don’t think she’s going to be a factor.

“It is over. McCain v Clinton in November”

The good news is McCain will win.

The bad news is then McCain will be President.

Which version of Mitt Romney are you talking about?

1. 2002 version
2. 2005 version
3. 2007 version
4. 2008 version

Because they are all different.

Given his propensity to promise whatever his audience wants, I know he is not the TRUE conservative you present him to be.
