Why Rush Limbaugh Doesn't Like Duncan Hunter
Spank That Donkey ^ | Staff

Posted on 01/19/2008 9:41:41 AM PST by pissant

I was surprised to hear Rush Limbaugh the other day say that there was no 'Thoroughbred' Conservative in the 2008 Republican nomination Field for President. I was thinking to myself, What? Rep. Duncan Hunter is Conservative right down the line. From his web site: Hunter' Ratings

National Rifle Association: A+

Americans for Better Immigration: A+

Eagle Forum: 100%

Christian Coalition: 100%

Family Research Council Action: 100%

Campaign for Working Families: 100%

Concerned Women for America: 100%

National Right to Life Committee: 100%

Federation for American Immigration Reform: 100%

National Federation of Independent Business: 100%

Gun Owners of America: A (Read GOA article here)

** GodVoters.org: A ** (the ONLY A they gave) (See their endorsement here)

American Conservative Union: 92%

Americans for Tax Reform: 88.5% (lifetime, most recent rating was 100%)

National Tax Limitation Committee: 88

National Taxpayers Union: B

ACLU: 7% (indicates very conservative)

NARAL: 0% (indicates a pro-life record)

Exactly how Conservative can you get? Ok, so what's with Limbaugh? Simple, found this On the Hill article that says:

"It is difficult to change Rep. Duncan Hunter’s mind. House leadership officials and the White House have found that out the hard way."

"When they wanted him to vote for a pending trade bill last year, Hunter (R-Calif.) refused — again and again. And when the Bush administration tried to convince the powerful Armed Services Committee on its controversial port security plan, Hunter refused to budge."

"Twisting Hunter’s arm is impossible, his close friends say."

The article continues:

"And Hunter, whom many call a protectionist, was instrumental in scuttling a deal that would have given the operations at six major U.S. ports to Dubai Ports World, a company owned by the United Arab Emirates."

“He was shocked that the administration approved the deal,” said Rep. Jim Saxton (R-N.J.), a senior member of Hunter’s committee and a close friend. Saxton worked with Hunter to introduce legislation blocking the deal and revising the foreign-investment process to ensure national security.

“On the Dubai issue, he got all fired up,” a congressional source said. Hunter gathered information to prove that Dubai has not been trustworthy — despite repeated administration assertions that the UAE is a vital ally in the war on terrorism."

"It is not often that a guest on a TV news program has the boldness to put the interviewer’s political-activism past in the open, but Hunter wasn’t one to shy away. He made sure to point out, three times, that George Stephanopoulos, the host of ABC’s “This Week,” had worked for President Clinton, who supported the Dubai Ports deal."

“I don’t think President Clinton, your old boss, knows the facts of the transshipment that take place through Dubai sending nuclear components to all parts of the world,” Hunter told Stephanopoulos, in one of the references to Clinton."

I remember Rush getting particularly getting bent out of shape on the issue:

Rush probably felt he could personally change every American's mind on the issue from behind the EIB Golden Microphone, but alas, the deal fell through. Is El Rushbo taking out his frustration on the actual 'Thoroughbred Conservative' Republican Candidate for POTUS in 2008?

Hey Rush, why don't you give your ego a break bud?

Until fairly recently, el Rushmo was against immigration reform, calling illegal immigration "A sign of a healthy economy." In other words parroting the US Chamber of Commerce party line.

The country owes this man a huge debt of gratitude for bringing in many former male democratic voters to the path of righteousness. However, ain't nobody ever going to accuse him of being a conservative intellectual, but we all know where they got us! What Rush is IMHO, is a corporate American right wing thinker, joined at the hip to the business community.

Also, he ain't shy, which has helped the cause. But in truth, he's an entertainer, not a beacon of truth unto the masses.

He doesn’t matter enough to evoke any strong feelings.

If you really believe this, then why do you and your compatriots bother wasting your time on these threads bashing him and battling with us?

Had he rasied his level of recognition in the national arena like say Newt or DeLay he may have been a player this time around.

LOL! Yeah, I see they are taking the country by storm this election cycle. Newt has become worthless with his pandering to the gloBULL warming crowd, to name but one.

Hunter in his some 27 years of sucking at the gov’t teat didn’t expand himself beyond his CD and House committee...

DUNCAN HUNTER is one of the FEW members of CONgre$$ that I would not use that description of. In lieu of "sucking" he actually worked to fulfill his DUTY by promoting national defense and sovereignty, defending the defenseless, working toward more freedom for the American people as oppossed to less, giving the people their money back that was stolen by corrupt legislators and promoting a strong, proud America.

Name ONE other member of CONgre$$ that has contributed more than DUNCAN HUNTER. He has actually EARNED what he has made in the last 28 years, albeit a fraction of what he could have earned in the private sector.

He was generally for it, as not posing an increased security threat, but said it was a political loser on day one and didn’t stump for it. He did not strongly advocate for it.

That has more to do with his supporters than him.
Once they stop attacking the decent and good conservatives who can actually win the nomination, then we’ll stop.
But Duncan Hunter himself is a fine man.
However, that still doesn’t change the fact that he falls under “Other” in this race.

It’s pretty clear.

Look at your post I replied to, then put it together with my reply, and then get back to me.

"He doesn’t matter enough to evoke any strong feelings."

Then why do you bother posting on threads about him?

He really, really bothers you, doesn't he?

The GOP has a long history of choosing ex-Governors as their nominee.

And, they have a proven track record in that regard.

I don't think it's anything personal with Rush.

What we are seeing in "this entire cycle" is the triumph of big money, the media, and the stupidity of the sheeple who let other people do their thinking for them.

Finally an intelligent post!

Hunter’s protectionist trade policy is VERY, VERY dangerous to this country.

It's not just tariffs and subsidies with Hunter either. He supported the anti-online gambling bill that illegally extended America's police reach outside its territory. The WTO slapped us down on this one hard - and more power to them!

He’s a NOBODY!!! Nobody’s ever heard of him, nobody cares about him. He’s some lame-ass congressman from California who woke up one day and decided to run for president.

This "nobody," this "lame-ass Congressman" was the guy Reagan relied on to push approval for ballistic missile defense and IRBM missile deployment in Europe through Congress. Without people like Hunter, you might not be free or even alive today.

Now it's time for you to tell us all who you actually support, and why.

“Until fairly recently, el Rushmo was against immigration reform, calling illegal immigration “A sign of a healthy economy.” In other words parroting the US Chamber of Commerce party line.”

Absolutely, and that is the problem with the naysayers against Hunter. They LOVE cheap labor and cheap imports, subsidized by fools like us. The last thing they want is to have to earn a living on an even playing field.

Just ask one of these naysayers to show you his past position on illegal immigration. I have...they won’t.

GOP has a long history of choosing poorly....and the former governors in this race will prove to be disastrous for conservatives.

Was he sucking the Government teat working tirelessly to get our borders secured, end abortion, working to build a strong an capable military and speaking out about stupid and dangerous trade deals? Was he sucking the Government teat, when he was in Vietnam in some damn jungle, while Freddie, Rudy, Mikey and Romney were sitting stateside?

Oh, I doubt that very much.

I don’t think Duncan is on Rush’s radar to the extent that he would get P.O.’d about his stand on the Dubai.

That was kind of a joke to Rush, anyway, that people got their panties in a wad over Dubai while putting up with so many more important things.
