Fred Thompson, making what could be his last stand in South Carolina, has inched up to third in the latest tracking poll leading up to Saturday's first-in-the-South primary. Thompson has 14 percent in the Reuters/C-SPAN/Zogby poll released this morning, sliding ahead of Mitt Romney, who slipped to 12 percent, even though some of the polling was done after he won the Michigan primary on Tuesday. Romney is chasing delegates in Nevada, whose caucuses are also Saturday, after saying he believes John McCain has South Carolina locked up. McCain held his lead in the new poll, with 29 percent, compared to 22 percent for Mike Huckabee. Ron Paul and Rudy Giuliani were tied at 5 percent, according to the poll. A Clemson University poll also gave McCain a 29 percent-22 percent edge over Huckabee, who won the leadoff caucuses in Iowa but hasn't finished better than third since. Thompson, the former US senator from Tennessee, plans to air a 60-second ad during today's evening news across South Carolina in which he talks up his conservative credentials in a folksy way designed to appeal to Southern voters. "I've been a conservative all my life," he says, then citing his "100 percent pro-life" record and asserting that Americans' fundamental rights come "from God, not government." McCain, meanwhile, picked up the endorsement today of the Charleston Post and Courier, which also endorsed him in 2000, when he lost to now-President Bush. The newspaper's editorial board said McCain's record in the eight years since only reinforced its belief that the Arizona senator is the best suited for the presidency.

Whatever. It’s still nonsense.
The Lowcountry leans Democrat. Statewide they are outnumbered by conservatives though.

Yep, Flip Romney troll nonsense ... it’s chest deep around here and getting deeper ...
Like I’ve pointed out before, Judge Bork endorsed Mr. Romney.
http://www.newsmax.com/insidecover/Bork_Endorses_Romney/2007/12/15/57308.html
Noted conservative jurist Judge Robert Bork endorsed Governor Mitt Romney for President of the United States Saturday.
Joining Romney for President, Judge Bork said, “Throughout my career, I have had the honor of serving under several Presidents and am proud to make today’s endorsement. No other candidate will do more to advance the conservative judicial movement than Governor Mitt Romney. He knows firsthand how the judicial branch can profoundly affect the future course of a state and a nation. I greatly admired his leadership in Massachusetts in the way that he responded to the activist court’s ruling legalizing same-sex ‘marriage.’ His leadership on the issue has served as a model to the nation on how to respect all of our citizens while respecting the rule of law at the same time.”
Judge Bork continued, “Our next President may be called upon to make more than one Supreme Court nomination, and Governor Romney is committed to nominating judges who take their oath of office seriously and respect the rule of law in our nation. I also support Governor Romney because of his character, his integrity and his stands on the major issues facing the United States.”
Welcoming Judge Bork’s support, Governor Romney said, “For decades, Judge Bork has been a leader in moving the conservative legal movement forward. As one of our nation’s premier conservative jurists, he has been an important voice for our conservative values in Washington. I look forward to his counsel and working with him on the most important judicial matters facing our nation today.”
Whether Fred keeps going or not depends on the money. I’m not sure he has the money to keep going.
What is even more interesting is the poll numbers for NV. Hukster has TANKED and Thompson has risen 7 points. Go check it out.
If he doesn’t win, I’m thinking that Fred would have to come in 2nd to keep his campaign alive. Right now, I’d be thrilled with a 2nd place finish for Fred.
Yeah... just for you.
Isn’t that want you wanted to see?
Of course it is... just like you wanna see Fred win SC.
And BOTH are illusions... caused by the same projected thinking.
Fair enough indeed.
What IS it with people and seeing what they WANT to see and not seeing what IS. Recheck my sign up date pops!
OK, No prob!
Look, I’d like to be wrong... but I don’t think I am and I’m usually not when it comes to RINO detection. We’ve all been LOOKING for a real conservative... and I don’t see one. And Fred sure isn’t one. And time will tell all... sooner, rather than later...
Yes, I am not sure he pulled in that much in the Fourth Quarter and he hasn’t been winning, so I have to think he’s a little stretched for a good performance on Super Tuesday.
if third were first, fred would have it locked up.
Perhaps you should get your RINO detector tuned up ....
If we want him to go on, and I certainly do, we should tell him.
No matter the outcome of SC, Giuliani will still be behind Fred in votes, finish positions and delegates. If he’s not being pressured to quit, why should Fred?
Yikes! I hadn’t noticed that...nice:)
Yeah? Well what’s REALLY interesting about NV is who they say COULD be the real surprise....
Where is a list of the states that are voting on Super Tuesday?
