>>”Otherwise he looks pretty much the same as hillary.”<<
Right. That’s the “sort of treatment” I’m talking about. Totally asinine analysis. Say it often enough, though, and people start to believe it.
Well, Reagan had to fight the Republican powers-that-be of his time to get the nomination. Huckabee’s going to have to do the same. And in my opinion he’ll be as successful as Reagan if he’s ever elected. He’s got the communication skills Reagan did, the moral center that Bush has, and a far better grasp on conservative economics than he’s given credit for.
Compare that to the nonsense that’s going on in DC today, where the Republicans are getting ready to throw in with the Dems and have a giant “stimulus party.” Reagan would throw a fit. I watched Reagan at his low point, in about 1982, when he stood behind Volcker’s restrictive monetary policy to bring inflation down while waiting for the tax cuts he’d fought so hard for to take effect. The economy was far worse than today, and it clearly was taking a toll on him personally, but he stood his ground and we got nearly 20 years of economic strength from his decision to do so.
Now, we get Keynesian economics II, and from a Republican president. I believe Huckabee, like Reagan, would use the current distress as leverage to get good policies in place, not bad ones. Now, for instance, is the time to change the tax code, by pointing out the many ways it frustrates productivity. Bush is incapable of it, though he started strong. Now, his tax cuts are two years from expiring and instead of fighting to make them permanent, he’s going to go the Jimmy Carter route and send out some checks.
If someone has the sense to ask Huckabee (and the other candidates) what they would be advocating RIGHT NOW if they held the office, listen closely and see who actually has a plan that makes sense. My money’s on Huckabee because, as I keep saying in here, Huckabee understands all this.
By the way, if you really want to jump-start the economy, heal the stock market and make us more competitive internationally, just eliminate the corporate income tax. Oh, but that’s what the Fair Tax would do, plus far more.
Fred has 24 hours to attack McCain.
Our two WORST CANDIDATES ARE IN THE LEAD?!?!?
The Drives-by’s dreams have came true!
thats what I heard too.
The undecideds will break for Fred Thompson and Mitt Romney. The final results will be very close.
I predict Huckabee comes in first, McCain, Romney and Fred tied for third.
I really hope that McCain loses and Fred pulls ahead.
A vote for McCain is a vote for the lib media.
I for one don’t want to see NBC, or ABC, or the NYT, or whoever running this country. Yeah, I’m being a bit hyperbolic, but the relationship between McCain and the media is undeniable.
There's only one person who Rush has said is a real conservative. But he didn't say that about Mitt.
Saying someone is a real conservative is about the closest we're gonna get from Rush for an endorsement until the nominee is picked.
He even(well, his webmaster/graphic artists) even made a graphic on it with the man's picture.
It was Fred.
FWIW, I haven't heard Rush say anything bad about Mitt. Haven't heard him say anything bad about Fred or Rudy either. Or even for that matter Paul. But a graphic with 'real conservative' seems closer to an endorsement to me than a lack of mean words.
Not as bad as Hillary....but really bad. If one cares about conservatism anyway.
He believes in the Global Warming scam. That alone would be a disqualifier for me, even if he didn’t spout class-warfare rhetoric, support tuition breaks for illegals, pardon over a thousand felons, call for closing down Guantanamo, raise taxes through the roof, propose a national smoking ban, cover for his dog-torturing scumbag of a son, hurl childish insults in response to questions about his record, commit countless ethics lapses, and destroy the Arkansas Republican party.
It doesn’t help matters that his supporters are absolutely immune to facts. They can’t/won’t address any of the facts I cite above. All they can say is, “he’s pro-life and pro-gun an that’s good enough for me.”
I don’t see why we should accept a pro-life socialist when there is a pro-life believer in free markets, who DOESN’T buy into the Global Warming scam in Fred Thompson.
