PROSPERITY, S.C. -- Fred Thompson called on Mike Huckabee to put a stop to push polling calls that misrepresent Thompsons record.
I find it ironic that this man would talk about cleaner politics and rising above the fray, Thompson said, while this is going on right under his nose.
At an event in Prosperity today, a Thompson volunteer stood up during the audience questions portion and said a lot of people had received negative phone calls that misrepresented your record.
Really? Thompson asked, seeming genuinely surprised. Could I ask you to raise your hand if you got a phone call like that?
Roughly half the 75 people in attendance raised their hands.
Good gracious, Thompson said. Who do they say is calling? Do they say anything good about any candidate?
Huckabee, the audience responded.

Roughly half the 75 people in attendance raised their hands. The saddest part of that sentence is the number.
Everyone should send this link to Drudge.
This is the primary story of 2008.
It needs national attention.
Huckabee has nothing to do with these calls. They are an independent campaign.
That is sad. Meanwhile Mccain is drawing hundreds.
Our party. Our people. Too sad. Too depressing.
Give em hell, Fred.
That just shows Fred’s commitment to small-town America. Prosperity only has a population of about 1100. Fred drew about 600 in Anderson the other night.
B.S.
Bull! He could stop them with a word and he has not even tried nor even castigated them.
ditto
That’s a lie.
Huckabee is directing funds directly to this “outside” group.
This Ed Rollins guy has a long history of just these kinds of tactics.
You got that right.
<< Huckabee has nothing to do with these calls. They are an independent campaign. >>
Clintonian.
And Media Matters is “independent” of Hillary Clinton.
IMHO, Huckabee is the pharisee who rends his clothes and prays loudly in front of the synagogue while being rotten to to core inside. We have been warned about people like that.
He knows. He’s complicit. He approves.
You're jumping to a conclusion. Seventy five people raised their hands. How many people were there? How big a town was he speaking in?
If Huckabee would come out and clealy say that they are false and misleading, the push poll would stop.
However, Huckabee instead tries to dance around the issue.
He is complicit in the push polls either by direct action or by his inaction.
Prosperity, SC has a population of about 1100 give or take a few.
