LOS ANGELES - A former Los Angeles gang member who founded an anti-violence group called No Guns has pleaded no contest to federal weapons charges.

Hector (Big Weasel) Marroquin, 51, and co-defendant Sylvia Arrellano, 25, entered pleas Thursday for three counts of manufacture, distribution and transport for sale of an unlawful assault weapon.

Arrellano also pleaded no contest to machine-gun conversion and possessing a silencer and acknowledged the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

She was given until Tuesday to surrender for sentencing and would likely be sentenced to four years in prison, prosecutors said.

The group received $1.5 million from the city as a subcontractor on anti-gang efforts

More evidence a fool (San Fran politicians) and his money are soon parted, though in this case its the taxpayers money they squandered.

While I wouldn't put this sort of thing past the libs up in SF, this is a Los Angeles story. :=)

Little Weasel is his son, Hector, Jr. Here is some background on the Weasel family. They're a great group!

They want to prohibit you and me from having guns so we can’t resist them when they try to impose their will on us.

OTOH, they are above the law.

From the article: "Arrellano also pleaded no contest to machine-gun conversion ..."

Maybe she reserved a right to challenge the law as being unConstitutional? What a hoot if she becomes the poster girl of the NRA by having this infringement reversed by the Supreme Court?

She's liable to do a lot of hard time in an attempt to modify a rifle in a way that most military don't even find valuable. I think most M16 like rifles these days fire a three-round burst rather than full automatic. If you don't take the time to aim, you aren't going to hit your target.

Most US M-16s. Not all countries subscribe to the notion that the average grunt can't be trained in fire discipline. However we provide pretty much every squad with a true light machine gun, the M249. There are also dedicated Marksmen, often equipped with a 7.62x51 rifle with some sort of optics, beyond what the grunts have on their rifles. That guy may carry just a full sized M-16 instead, but again with the optics, but many carry an M-14, or derivative. Some will have an M-203 under the barrel of their M16 or M4. No more "one size fits all". During the transition, they would sometimes have the guy that now has the M-249 have a full auto M-16 with a higher capacity magazine.
