Huckabee on Altering Constitution for Religion

At approximately 4 minutes into this interview, Governor Mike Huckabee states the Constitution is a "...living, breathing document..."

This is a decidedly liberal view of the constitution.

Mike Huckabee wants to rewrite the Constitution according to Mike.

Apparently he knows a lot more than the framers.

I just jumped to that point and he is saying that the Constitution can be amended as stated in the Constitution. He is not taking the liberal "living Constitution" belief that any idiot with a black robe can change the meaning.

I think you're misfiring by jumping on that statement.

Now I have to track down exactly what changes he wants to make.

For years, the LIBERALS have said and believed the constitution is a living, breathing document..It’s a liberal talking point.

Now- that is a point of view. It is not a conservative point of view.

He used those words, which makes me cringe because of the way the liberals use them, but the examples he gave were of actual amendments, not of ongoing reinterpretation of what the words clearly state. Libs like blending the two so if you are in favor of a legally changeable Constitution then you should be in favor of a randomly reinterpreted one.

Now I don't like the way he stated that the Constitution gave us the right to free speech or to bear arms. Those are inherent rights of people and the Constitution forbids the government from infringing on them. Rights are not derived from government.

I can’t tell from your post whether you intended to support or disparage Huckabee’s response but it is about the most eloquent and well reasoned statement on the nature of the constitution that I have heard. As he points out, a pro-life amendment to the constitution have been part of the Republican party platform since the Reagan era. It was introduced into the platform under Reagan’s guidance. Good for Huckabee for sticking to his guns.

Did you. Only a liberal feels the constitution is “living/breathing. A conservative feels that the constitution should only be altered in the most rare of circumstances.

The two amendments he refers to are the pro-life amendment that is part of the Republican party platform and the marriage amendment that would define marriage as being between one man and one woman. Which of those are not conservative issues?
