Some follow-up on some recent posts on interesting developments in the Taiwan Strait.

If this report is accurate, it sounds like the Chinese are getting pretty defensive and trigger-happy for some reason. It definitely makes one wonder why.

If we cause "grave concern" by going through the Taiwan strait, is there some reason things are about to heat up there? Maybe something we aren't supposed to see?

This reads like the “same old sub” incident story in regard to the Kitty Hawk that has been ciculating for years....

When the USS George Washington CVN-73 replaces the USS Kitty Hawk this year it should be home ported at Kaohsing.

But Admiral Timothy Keating, head of the U.S. Pacific Command, told reporters Tuesday: “We don’t need China’s permission to go through the Taiwan Strait. We will exercise our free right of passage whenever and wherever we choose.”

Shortly before the Kitty Hawk battle group was denied entry to Hong Kong, China had refused safe harbor for two U.S. Navy minesweepers seeking refuge from a storm.

This was a message being sent.
