Stillproud2befree wrote about this in 2005. There was an alliance between the Soviet Union and Egypt. Anwar Sadat was murdered because he tried to reverse the forged military alliance. Zawahiri was jailed in Egypt for his involvement in Sadat’s murder. For some reason he was released. From Egypt he made his way eventually to Afghanistan, and as they say, the rest is history.
